Are you addicted to being addicted do you live in drama, chaos, and end up overwhelmed? Do you find yourself procrastinating when you really should be producing? And we don't just get addicted to drugs, alcohol, food, compulsive spending, and compulsive gambling, or any substance like that.
What we get addicted to is our emotions; anger, hate, resentment, guilt, abandonment, shame, overwhelmed feelings, and resentment. These are the typical emotions that take us out of flow. Unfortunately a large percent of society is addicted to their emotional state then they keep doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.
I ask many of my clients, what is the payoff you get out of procrastinating? What is the payoff you get out of being angry? Many of them go "Pay Off, Pay Off, I don't want a pay off!"
Actually unconsciously your reticular activating system which is your emotional "google" engine will continue to take you back to a series of familiar feelings you've become addicted too. So the payoff you get from procrastination or being addicted to your emotions is you get to be disappointed. Yes indeed disappointment become a way of life.
If you find yourself in that state here are some keys to letting go. First of all you must become aware of why you do what you do. It's events that shape our feelings and then the feelings we're addicted to become so familiar they become an identity. Awareness, consciousness, being objective; any synonym that represents being able to break an emotional habit in the middle of a feeling.
Key number two: is to take a deep breath followed by the term release. Because that releases the neurons that wire-together fire-together it also releases all of the receptors cells that can come together to form a familiar feeling and allows you to let go emotionally.
And when you begin to practice awareness, letting go, deep breathing, and then finding reason to succeed bigger then your problems. You'll begin to let of some of your emotional addictions.
So being addicted to addictions that is just not conducive. Isn't time today that you begin to let go? Start with some forgiveness, less judgment but most importantly do your best to find something that empowers you. Do your best to find something that inspires you and let go of addictions one day at a time.
