Hazard, Risk & Safety - Understanding Risk Assessment, Management and Perception
(subtitles available in English, French, Dutch, Spanish, Chinese and Russian, German, and a French version is available here: https://youtu.be/wRmfvFYDNr8) Hazard, Risk & Safety Danger, risques et sécurité Gevaar, risico's en veiligheid Peligro, riesgo y seguridad Опасность, риск и безопасность Gefahr, Risiko und Sicherheit We all hear these terms on a daily basis. So and so a chemical, physical or a biological agent poses a risk; This or that product is a hazard or behaving a certain way is unsafe. A lot of the time “hazard” and “risk” are freely used to mean the same thing. However they are not. Hazard is the potential to cause harm. Risk on the other hand is the likelihood of harm in defined circumstances. In a nutshell, hazard and risk are not always aligned as the risk depends on the exposure to the hazard ; similarly, risk, safety and perception of risk are not always aligned; this can make political decisions regarding safety levels difficult to make, in these cases it is especially important to base them on facts rather than on subjective perceptions. http://www.greenfacts.org

PADI - Enriched Air Diving
http://www.sunderlandscubacentre.com/courses/enriched-air-diver-course.html PADI - Enriched Air Diving PADI Enriched Air Diver Course Raise your hand if youd like to have longer no-stop bottom time. It always seems like the best dives have to end the fastest so its no secret why the PADI Enriched Air/Nitrox Diver course is the most popular specialty certification going its all about more bottom time. Youve probably heard the term NITROX or seen the bright green and yellow stickers ringing some divers tanks, but do you know what it is? Enriched air/nitrox is a gas blend with a higher proportion of oxygen than regular air. Diving with nitrox, your no-stop limits can increase dramatically. Particularly in the 12 - 18 metre range, where most recreational diving takes place, you can see your time better than double upon the nitrox mixture and depth. In the Enriched Air/Nitrox course youll learn how to select the best mixture for your planned depth, how to analyze the mixture for safety and how to determine your oxygen exposure limits after each dive. Youll also learn about the special equipment concerns that arise when youre using higher oxygen percentages. Nitrox allows you to do more of what you got into diving for you can stay underwater longer and get back into the water sooner. Many people also find that diving with nitrox lets them feel less tired after a day of diving and that translates to more time enjoying your vacation locale and less time resting in the hotel. After all, its all about more bottom time. Prerequisites: Minimum age 15 and certified. Our Enriched Air / Nitrox Course teaches you how to plan Nitrox dives, to take into consideration both nitrogen and oxygen exposure limits, calculate maximum operating depths and much more. Includes: Enriched Air/Nitrox Diving Manual w/homework assignments Classroom session. How to analyze gases, analyzer calibration, selecting the right gases and fill procedures. PADI Enriched Air/Nitrox Certification Card All Enriched Air/Nitrox Slates and Tables (DSAT, 32% and 36%)

Safety is NOT a Priority - Safety Training Video - Preventing Workplace Accidents and Injuries
Safety is NOT a Priority - Safety Training Video - Preventing Accidents and Injuries A truck technician with almost 40 years experience was working on a truck during his lunch hour because the customer was waiting, and he was in a hurry to get his vehicle back. Because he was in a hurry, the technician failed to deploy a safety system built into the truck's hydraulic mechanism to prevent it from falling on the mechanic. His foot slipped and struck the operating lever, bringing the mechanism down, crushing him to death. In that business, safety was a "priority," and priorities get shuffled. In this case, safety was moved down and "customer service" became the "#1 priority." This short video explains the dangers of relying on safety slogans and the effective alternative that will make your life safer - at work, at home, or anywhere else. Job Hazard Analysis vs Job Safety Analysis
The following is a post to add to a discussion ongoing in the LinkedIn ASSE Group on the definitions of Job Hazard Analysis and Job Safety Analysis. The late Shannon England, a consulting ergonomist, and I had a discussion on the topic several years ago and devised the chart shown here. James Roughton and I also had discussions on whether we which term to use or come up with a new nomenclature for the JHA and JSA when writing our book. I hope this adds to the overall discussion as there is confusion especially when we interchange the terms during training of supervisors and employees.
