RR7650A UK BRITAIN'S ECONOMIC CRISIS

16:17
RR7650A UK BRITAIN'S ECONOMIC CRISIS For Britain, 1976 has been a year of severe economic crisis - one and a half million unemployed, domestic inflation at 14 per cent, galloping devaluation, stagnant industrial production and huge international loans to cover the balance of payments deficit. The Government's strategy for recovery depends on continuing support from the trade unions on wage restraint - support which might not be given if unemployment rises and social services are curtailed as a consequence of conditions imposed by the International Monetary Fund for granting Britain a new standby credit of 3.9 billion dollars. Coal mining in the Netherlands 1100-1974

03:09
Coal mining in the Netherlands 1100-1974 Coal mining in Limburg, a province of the Netherlands, has taken place since the 16th century. Near the Augustinian Abbey of Rolduc, coal is found very close to the surface. The abbey owned the coal, and beginning in the 16th century hired local miners to extract the coal for sale as fuel. The true extent of the coal reserves in the south-east corner of Limburg first became apparent in 1870, when the wealthy Count Marchant and Ansembourg of Brussels ordered the first boreholes to be drilled near Eygelshoven, and a substantial seam of coal was found at a depth of 154 metres. The demand for coal had grown explosively as a result of increased industrialization and urban expansion, but the national governments regarded any form of interference in the extraction and sale of this fuel as unnecessary. Thus it came about that the first concessions for the extraction of coal in South Limburg were granted without hesitation to foreign firms, although most of the coal consumed in the Netherlands was imported from Germany, and Dutch investors preferred to invest their capital in foreign countries, such as in Russian government loans, American railways, and Hungarian waterworks.

Blacksyke Lime Kilns, Caprington, Ayrshire

02:12
The two 19th century lime kilns on the Caprington Estate were in use in 1857 and abandoned by 1895. Coal was mined locally and limestone probably brought in by the Kilmarnock & Troon Railway. Blacksyke hamlet stood near by with its school. The ruined tower was once an engine house built to look like a tower house.

Happening on 21 September in New York and globally, the People's Climate March is on its way to becoming the largest and most diverse mobilization for climate action in history. To show their commitment to protecting people’s climate, a number of Mayors will join the march under the banner, “People’s Climate, Mayors Commit”. This is in line with the vision laid out in the global advocacy of the Local Government Climate Roadmap. The march is set two days before world leaders gather in New York for the Climate Summit called by United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. The Summit is critical to lay the foundations for a new climate treaty that countries are expected to sign in 2015. With the impacts of climate change being felt around the world, with the solutions on the table and with growing momentum behind internationally-coordinated action to fix the crisis, the moment has come to put this issue back on top of the political agenda. Home to half of the world’s population, cities are responsible for 75% of global energy consumption and 40-50% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. They are playing a pivotal role in combating climate change by slashing these GHG emissions, building resilience and promoting sustainable alternatives to transport and energy. They will be central in ensuring that adverse effects of climate change will affect their citizens as little as possible. ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability, the world’s leading cities network, will participate in the People's March along with other 750 organizations, sharing its vision of local sustainability. It will mobilize mayors from around the world who will bring to New York the voices of their citizens. Mayors George Ferguson (Bristol, UK), Herbert Bautista (Quezon City, Philippines), Jürgen Nimptsch (Bonn, Germany), Frank Cownie (Des Moines, USA), Ronan Dantec (Nantes) have confirmed their attendance to the march. Many other local governments support the march. Mayor of Philadelphia Michael Nutter and New York City Council already announced their endorsements supporting the March. Meanwhile, Mayor Gustavo Petro will lead one of the biggest marches in his city of Bogotá, capital of Colombia. Everywhere Mayors are showing their strong commitment to tackle climate change and protect their citizens from its adverse effects. With his clear vision of energy justice and citizen participation, Bristol Mayor George Ferguson led his city to become the European Green Capital for 2015. In Bogotá, the Bus Rapid Transport system called TransMilenio is sparing the city 350,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, reducing air pollution and energy dependence. Seoul, South Korea has reduced its power needs by the equivalent of an average nuclear power plant and is investing in renewables. Its Mayor actively promoted #OccupySeoul, encouraging citizens to take active part in re-shaping the face of Korea's capital. In Bonn, the city is progressing with its plans to cut emissions by 40% and become the cycling capital of its region. On its new online platform, CityTalk, ICLEI tells some of the challenges and stories of success of these cities, showing how mayors are spearheading a diverse movement of local governments with high ambitions, engaging their citizens to be part of a sustainable revolution. Mayors are the closest level of government to citizens. They are deeply grounded in their reality, and are committed to uphold their citizen’s safety, justice and sustainability. CityTalk also features ICLEI’s agenda in New York. Besides engaging in the march, ICLEI is actively involved in nine action-oriented initiatives linked to the upcoming UN summit: Compact of Mayors, City Climate Finance Alliance, arranging bank loans so home owners may buy solar panels. CCAC Municipal Solid Waste Initiative, recycling all waste and selling the minerals, etc = zero waste. Resilient Cities Accelerator Initiative, Carbon Pricing, Buildings Efficiency Accelerator Initiative, Requiring insulation so cities save enough energy to displace one atomic reactor. District Energy Accelerator Initiative, requiring Utilities to pay solar farmers $0.29 kwh for feeding solar onto the grid. and Urban Electric Mobility Vehicles.

Coal Miners Pension Plan Problems, No More Money

03:44
Coal Miners Pension Problems, Congress has to act to avoid default on pension payments and healthcare coverage. Lawmakers gathered in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday to press for fresh legislation to shore up pensions for about 117,000 union coal miners at risk of losing their retirement savings amid a coal industry decline. Yet significant political hurdles remain, even after Congress managed to extend healthcare benefits for 22,000 retired miners in May just as those benefits were set to expire The United Miner Workers of America pension funds are currently going to more than 87,000 miners nationwide, including 13,000 miners in Pennsylvania. The average check is $586 a month. Another 20,000 miners are vested for their pensions but have not yet begun drawing them. A budget score last November for the Miners Protection Act showed the UMWA’s pension fund needed $1.4 billion over the next 10 years. With a loan from the Treasury Department, the amount drawn from abandoned mine lands funds is expected to be less than that. The Abandoned Mine Lands program, managed by the U.S. Department of the Interior, is a pot of money collected from coal companies to fund mine restoration projects. Since its creation in 1977, the program has collected over $10 billion through a fee assessed on each ton of coal produced. In 1947, settling a nationwide dispute between mine owners and the union, then-President Harry S. Truman signed an executive order that created a national pension and health care agreement. Those actions were precedent for the Coal Act in 1992, which ensured lifetime healthcare following a nasty strike when companies were trying to avoid paying health care. The wave of bankruptcies today carry similar consequences for workers as the difficult times in 1940s and late-1980s, according to union officials. “Congress took the first step toward fulfilling America’s promise to retired coal miners and their families by passing legislation to preserve their health care earlier this year,” according to Cecil Roberts, the international president of the United Miner Workers of America. “With the passage of this legislation, Congress will take the final step and ensure that the people who put their lives and their health on the line to provide the fuel that made America the strongest country on earth get the retirement security they earned through a lifetime of dangerous, backbreaking work,” Mr. Roberts said. Degrees of Deception Four Corners

45:24
Monday 20th April 2015 By Linton Besser and Peter Cronau Australia has been gripped by a national debate over how to fund our university education. But perhaps there's a more important question: what is it worth? A Four Corners investigation has unearthed alarming new evidence of a decline in academic standards at institutions around the country. Lecturers and tutors are grappling with a tide of academic misconduct and pressure from faculty managers to pass weak students. Many say commercial imperatives are overtaking academic rigour. But why is this happening? As Federal Government funding for universities has declined, Vice-Chancellors have been forced to look elsewhere to fill the void. And for much of the past two decades, they've been tapping into a booming market - full fee-paying overseas students. Right now the country's 40 universities are pulling in billions of dollars from students who are desperate for a degree from an Australian university and the possibility of a job and permanent residency. But to ensure a steady flow of students from overseas, universities have had to ensure their entry requirements are sufficiently low. This week, reporter Linton Besser also provides alarming evidence of corruption among the network of overseas agents who tout for business on universities' behalf. "The risk is they're going to put applicants through to the university with fake qualifications or who they know have cheated on tests, or who are trying to undertake some sort of visa fraud." - Corruption investigator Ironically, these forces are also placing international students under enormous pressure. Despite the promises of agents, and after meeting universities' entry requirements, many don't have the level of English needed to successfully undertake a degree course. It's a situation that leaves students isolated and desperate; a scenario fuelling a thriving blackmarket in plagiarism and the corruption of some academics. An experienced lecturer has told Four Corners the failure to maintain standards in the course she teaches means graduates could put lives in danger when they begin working. "They might find themselves being the only registered nurse on duty. And that is something that frightens me." - University Nursing lecturer With universities now hooked on the income derived from foreign students, very few university employees can openly acknowledge these problems. Those who do, say that they face the possibility they will lose their job. DEGREES OF DECEPTION, reported by Linton Besser and presented by Kerry O'Brien

Fmr. World Bank Economist on Medupi Power Plant Loan

06:24
The World Bank has now approved a controversial $3.75 billon loan to South Africa to help build a new coal-fired power plant in that country. The proposed Medupi Power Plant would be a 4,800 MW, super-critical facility located a few hours' drive north of Johannesburg, very close to the coal mines that will provide supply. But the World Bank awarded the loan to state utility Eskom without the support of major shareholder countries, including the U.S. which abstained from the vote.

The Police - Dancing to "Canary In A Coalmine" (A Fanvid)

03:08
The Police are not only extremely skilled musicians, they also were very passionate dancers! ; D An homage to all their energy, passion, unique style and the positive atmosphere they always created! I'm afraid Stewart is underrepresented in this vid, due to the fact that drummers usually sit on stage, but whenever he does appear in one of the clips, he's the funniest and most passionate. ; ) Music is by the masters themselves: The Police with "Low Life" (Intro) and "Canary In A Coalmine" Just dance whenever you feel like it and don't care about the world around you!!

china pakistan economic corridor 2017 Full documentary in urdu- The Info Teacher

11:01
The implementation of the energy and infrastructure projects identified under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is being done on a fast-track basis on both sides to translate the plans into reality. The Silk Road Fund Co. Ltd was established in China last December to extend investment and financing support to CPEC projects and to promote industrial cooperation with Pakistan. The fund management company — set up as a consortium of leading Chinese banks, including the China Exim Bank and the China Development Bank — had initial funds of $10bn, which have now been raised to $40bn. The pioneering project to be implemented under the programme is the 720MW Karot hydropower project, for which $1.65bn has been earmarked by the Silk Road Fund, and the down payment is under release. The Fund has already signed an MoU with China’s Three Gorges Corporation and the Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) to develop a number of private hydropower projects, including Karot, which was approved last month by the PPIB’s board of directors. The PPIB has already issued the letter of support (LoS), and land acquisition is in process. The ambitious CPEC programme has two main components. It plans to develop a new trade and transport route from Kashgar in China to the Gwadar Port. The other component envisages developing special economic zones along the route, including power projects. The first-phase projects will receive $45.69bn in concessionary and commercial loans, for which financial facilitation to the Chinese companies is being arranged by the Silk Road Fund. These include $33.79bn for energy projects, $5.9bn for roads, $3.69bn for railway network, $1.6bn for Lahore Mass Transit, $66m for Gwadar Port and a fibre optic project worth $4m. The prioritised, short-term projects involve over $17bn in investment. Apart from Karot, they include the upgrading of the 1,681km Peshawar-Lahore-Karachi railway line ($3.7bn); Thar coal-fired power plants worth 1,980MW ($2.8bn); development of two Thar coal mining blocks ($2.2bn); the Gwadar-Nawabshah natural gas pipeline ($2bn); imported coal-based power plants at Port Qasim worth 1,320MW ($2bn); a solar park in Bahawalpur worth 900MW ($1.3bn); the Havelian-Islamabad link of the Karakoram Highway ($930m); a wind farm at Jhimpir for 260MW ($260m); and the Gwadar International Airport ($230m). The Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company, a joint venture of Engro Powergen Ltd and the Sindh government, holds the lease of Thar Block-II coalfields, while it’s Thar Power Company will construct a series of mine-mouth power plants. In May, the PPIB concluded the implementation and the power purchase agreements for two 330MW projects, which are scheduled to begin commercial operations by December 2017. And the China Development Bank has finalised the terms and conditions for financing a 3.8m tonnes per annum coal-mining project as well as a power project. On June 25, the PPIB approved another Thar coal-based mine-mouth power project of 1,320MW capacity, which is being developed by the Shanghai Electric (Group) Corporation in partnership with Sino-Sindh Resources, a subsidiary of Global Mining (China) Ltd. Sino-Sindh Resources will receive $1bn from the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. The mine-mouth power project, originally planned to start power generation in 2016, has been rescheduled for commissioning by 2017-18. A letter of interest from the Chinese banks was issued in March for 75pc financing of the $2.6bn project, 25pc of which will be equity. In addition, Chinese banks will provide financing for two 660MW imported coal-fired power plants at Port Qasim. A financing cooperation agreement was recently signed by the China Exim Bank and the Port Qasim Electric Power Company for the under-construction project. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority approved the upfront tariff on February 13. The other 660MW project at Port Qasim is being developed by the Lucky Electric Power Company. The two projects are scheduled to begin commercial operations within four years. But they are likely to be delayed as a dedicated jetty for each project has to be constructed for unloading the imported coal, and the contracts for them have not yet been awarded. Meanwhile, the Punjab government has leased 4,500 acres of land to Chinese investors for the development of the second phase of the Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park of 900MW, to be commissioned in 21 months. The China Development Bank, Exim Bank of China and Zonergy Co Ltd will be involved in it. Likewise, the draw-down agreement for the Jhimpir wind project between UEP Wind Power (the borrower) and the China Development Bank Corporation (the lender) has been concluded. The project, having achieved financial close, is scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2016. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "why hafeez is called professor hafeez revealed the truth" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rb_RDi4mLgM -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

China takes millions in aid from the UK, then hands it to...Russia | Breaking News US/Australia

05:23
★More News Channel - Entertainment Video►► http://bit.ly/2zUac3v Russia is set to be the leading recipient of a vast new foreign aid department being launched by China – a country to which Britain gives tens of millions of pounds of taxpayers’ cash. The creation of the department was approved in a vote yesterday by the National People’s Congress. The communist superstate has already doled out a staggering £215 billion over the past five years in aid and loans.About £26 billion of that has gone to Russia in loans, grants and other agreements to secure oil supplies to China.Under President Xi Jinping’s ‘Belt and Road’ programme of vast infrastructure projects, China will hand out a further £700 billion in the next decade, making the country the world’s biggest aid donor.Extraordinarily, despite sending so much money out of the country, China still takes in £45 million a year from the UK in aid.Critics of the UK’s aid programme and the Government’s pledge to spend 0.7 per cent of GDP – more than £12 billion – on foreign aid are now questioning why the money should go to a state that already has its own vast project.Tory MP Andrew Bridgen said: ‘Many people will ask why on earth we’re sending any money to China at all, especially when they’ve set up their own ministry which will no doubt be spending money to secure their own strategic foreign policy objectives.’ Among the projects the Government has funded in China is a study to help migrant workers in factories in Guangzhou quit smoking. A £133,584 grant for the project was handed over by the publicly funded Medical Research Council in 2015-16 to scientists at Sun Yat-Sen University for a study into smoking habits. It included 400 workers being given ‘intensive tobacco-related education’. Tory MP Andrew Bridgen said: ‘Many people will ask why on earth we’re sending any money to China at all’China gave Russia £26 billion in aid between 2000 and 2014, according to US-based research group AidData. The biggest chunk of that sum, given in loans, grants, and other agreements, was an £18 billion loan to Russian oil company Rosneft and pipeline builder Transneft, followed by a £4 billion loan-for-coal programme.Russia has extensive oil and coal reserves that fuel the Chinese economy. The rest of the money to Russia during that period was sent between banks in the two countries. The aid to Russia was almost exclusively in the form of loans at near-market rates.China also gave £195 million to North Korea during the same period, according to a 2017 AidData report called Aid: China and Growth.China is intensely secretive about where it sends its foreign aid. It takes two forms: development assistance, in the form of grants to mostly poorer countries, and commercial loans in much bigger amounts to countries such as Russia and Pakistan.According to the 2016-17 annual report of the UK’s Department for International Development, 59 per cent of the money invested in China by Britain came from the Foreign Office,

Monday 1 May 2017 - After the Game "You literally go from the very peak of your career, being the best at something, to dirt." Former Olympian & Commonwealth Gold Medallist On Four Corners, Australian sporting champions reveal their struggles to restart their lives after their elite sporting careers have ended. "It's a cut-throat industry, professional sports... A lot of people forget we're still human beings." Former Essendon AFL Player Their accounts are raw, deeply personal and in some cases, shocking. "I felt like I was a failure again. That I couldn't achieve anything. I couldn't do basic things." Former Test Cricket Player One elite swimmer tells of how she went from being ranked number one in the world to queuing for the dole. "I applied for pretty much every job under the sun. I applied for packing shelves in shopping centres and the comment is: 'oh what do you need a job for?'" Former Olympian & Commonwealth Gold Medallist A world class superstar reveals their fight to overcome a dependence on prescription drugs used to numb the pain caused by injury. "Having to get off everything was really, really, really hard." Former Elite Athlete One former cricket star explains how he went from living the dream life to his current job as a road surfacer. "There's no system set up in place to take care of players that have career-ending injuries. It's short and sharp - 'see you later, thanks for coming'." Former Cricket Player All describe the mental anguish they've been through as they grappled with finding a place in the real world. "The perception in my mind was everything will be downhill from here. I've just reached the pinnacle. This is my lifelong dream. So is everything else from here downhill?" Olympic Gold Medallist Former Wallaby Dan Vickerman took his own life in February, devastating those around him. In moving interviews his former teammates reflect on the challenges of life after sport and the painful soul searching they've been through in the months since his death. These elite athletes are urging sporting bodies to do more to prepare sports men and women for life after their careers have ended. "Athletes are competing for maybe ten years, if they're lucky. Ten years out of an 80 year life. At the moment, that ten years, for a lot of people, it's destroying the rest of their lives. It's destroying the next sixty." UK Elects Socialist Leader Jeremy Corbyn. Will He Succeed?

12:22
The election of Jeremy Corbyn to be the head of UK’s labour party is paying off at the very least for the party itself. Their membership rolls have soared to historical highs. His success in terms of being able to implement changes is still to be determined. Cenk Uygur and John Iadarola (Think Tank), hosts of the The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. "To put it very simply: Corbyn's policy views are way out to the left of the Labour mainstream. Not all of his ideas are extreme, but enough of them are that the party chiefs fear they're unelectable now that he's going to lead the party. The BBC has an excellent rundown of Corbyn's actual policy platform. It includes, among other things, renationalizing Britain's railroad system and energy companies, abolishing tuition for British universities, and imposing rent controls to deal with Britain's affordable housing problem. He's even open to reopening the coal mines that used to be a big part of Britain's economy. It's essentially a throwback to the unreconstructed socialism — the real thing, way beyond Bernie Sanders — of the old-school British Labour Party, which used to be way more into the idea of the government controlling huge sectors of the economy.”* Read more here: http://www.vox.com/2015/9/12/9314779/jeremy-corbyn-labour-leader ********** The Young Turks September 23, 2015 Hour 1 https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTpcK80irdQggXK8Jy5nitWF5FOuQMrBx Dr. Ben Carson Thinks Satan Invented Big Bang Theory https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hb1LgGlk3tw&list=PLTpcK80irdQggXK8Jy5nitWF5FOuQMrBx&index=1 UK Elects Socialist Leader Jeremy Corbyn. Jeremy Deller: The Battle of Orgreave - a poem by Worcestershire Poet Laureate Suz Winspear

03:05
Jeremy Deller: The Battle of Orgreave is at Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum until 26 November 2016 (free entry). Suz Winspear performs her poem inspired by Deller's political work, which is on loan from The Artangel Collection at Tate. http://www.worcestershire.gov.uk/museums/events/event/84/jeremy_deller_the_battle_of_orgreave This exhibition brings an important and challenging artwork to Worcester, by one of the most significant artists of this generation. Jeremy Deller compares the Miner’s Strike to the English Civil War: “It would not be an exaggeration to say that the strike, like a civil war, had a traumatically divisive effect at all levels of life in the UK. Families were torn apart because of divided loyalties, the union movement was split on its willingness to support the National Union of Mineworkers… in all but name it became an ideological and industrial battle between the two sections of British society.” On 18 June 1984, the area around the Orgreave coking plant was the site of one of the strike’s most violent clashes. Jeremy Deller’s artwork The Battle of Orgreave, was a spectacular recreation of that day, orchestrated for Deller by a historical re-enactment expert. More than 800 people participated in the event, including former miners and former policemen, reliving the events from 1984. Other participants were drawn from Civil War societies who were more used to re-enacting fights like the 1651 Battle of Worcester. On loan from The Artangel Collection at Tate, the exhibition includes a documentary film directed by Mike Figgis, alongside objects, images and audio recordings from the artist's archive of research materials for the reenactment of the battle. 17th September – 26th November 2016

Old Photographs Denny Scotland

01:01
Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Denny town in the Falkirk area. Formerly in the county of Stirlingshire. It is situated 7 miles west of Falkirk, and 6 miles north east of Cumbernauld, adjacent to both the M80 and M876 motorways. Denny is separated from neighbouring village Dunipace by the River Carron. Until the early 1980s, Denny was a centre for heavy industry, including several iron foundries, brickworks, a coal mine and paper mills. Thomas Bain was born in Denny on December 14, 1834. He was a Canadian parliamentarian. He was the son of Walter Bain, and migrated to Canada with his family when he was three years old. They settled on a bush farm in Wentworth County near Hamilton, Ontario. He was elected to the County Council in the 1860s and became Warden. He was first elected to the Canadian House of Commons in the 1872 federal election as a Liberal. He was re-elected on six subsequent occasions, serving as a Member of Parliament for 28 years before retiring in 1900. In the House, he usually spoke on agricultural issues, and became Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Colonization in 1896. In 1874, he married Helen Weir. When the Speaker of the Canadian House of Commons, James David Edgar, died unexpectedly in July 1899, Wilfrid Laurier asked Bain to become the new Speaker for the remainder of Egar's term. Bain served as Speaker until the House was dissolved for the 1900 election in which he did not run. After retiring from politics, Bain became President of the Landed Banking and Loan Company and the Malcolm and Souter Furniture Company. He died in Dundas, on January 18, 1915, Ontario at age 80. Carl William Dunn Kirkwood was born on 30 April 1929 in Denny. He was the son of iron jobbing moulder William Kirkwood and his wife Ellen. He completed his schooling in Scotland and then served in the British Army in Malaya and Singapore from 1946 to 1948. He worked as a jobbing moulder, in Australia in 1955. He was soon active both in the Moulders' Union and the Labor Party's Preston branch. In 1970 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the member for Preston. He became spokesman on local government immediately, adding lands from 1976 to 1977 and dropping his front bench role entirely in 1981. Kirkwood retired in 1988. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.

Top 5 UK Banks Fuelling Climate Change by Financing Fossil Fuels

03:52
An open-cast coal mine in central Kalimantan, in the Indonesian part of the island of Borneo. A large swathe of rainforest has been cleared for the diggers, trucks and extraction equipment. Local people say waste from the mine is also finding its way into the river they rely on. The company behind the mining activity here is Indonesia's Borneo Lumbung, which got a one billion dollar loan in 2012 from Standard Chartered Bank, the UK's 2nd biggest bank. More widely, research by the anti-poverty campaigning group the World Development Movement shows the UK's FIVE biggest 5 banks: HSBC, Barclays, RBS, Lloyds and Standard Chartered, helped fossil fuel companies raise £170 billion pounds between 2010 and 2012. The group wants UK companies to have to disclose these investments, and ultimately to be prevented from making them.

In 1699 French settlers established the first permanent settlement at Cahokia, near present-day East St. Louis. Great Britain obtained the region at the end of the French and Indian Wars in 1763. The area figured prominently in frontier struggles during the Revolutionary War and in Indian wars during the early 19th century. Significant episodes in the state's early history include the influx of settlers following the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825; the Black Hawk War, which virtually ended the Indian troubles in the area; and the rise of Abraham Lincoln from farm laborer to president. Today, Illinois stands high in manufacturing, coal mining, agriculture, and oil production. The state's manufactures include food and agricultural products, transportation equipment, chemicals, industrial machinery, and computer equipment. The sprawling Chicago district (including a slice of Indiana) is a great iron and steel producer, meat packer, grain exchange, and railroad center. Chicago is also famous as a Great Lakes port. Illinois is a leading producer of soybeans, corn, and hogs. All Video Credits are listed here http://broadcaster.beazil.net/public/credits/youtube/videos/111729 . Consumer credit can be defined as "money, goods or services provided to an individual in the absence of immediate payment". Common forms of consumer credit include credit cards, store cards, motor vehicle finance, personal loans, consumer lines of credit, retail loans and mortgages. This is a broad definition of consumer credit and corresponds with the Bank of England's definition of "Lending to individuals". Better Qualified helps people build credit with secured credit cards. Secured credit cards are an option to allow a person with a poor credit history or no credit history to have a credit card which might not otherwise be available. Better Qualified has teamed up with the affiliates below to help you build credit through secured credit cards. The subsectors, industry groups, and industries within the NAICS Finance and Insurance sector are defined on the basis of their unique production processes. As with all industries, the production processes are distinguished by their use of specialized human resources and specialized physical capital. In addition, the way in which these establishments acquire and allocate financial capital, their source of funds, and the use of those funds provides a third basis for distinguishing characteristics of the production process. For instance, the production process in raising funds through deposit-taking is different from the process of raising funds in bond or money markets. To put that drain on the economy in perspective, the top 100 EU regulations cost more than the $37.8 billion in local property taxes, called “Council Tax,” paid by British citizens to the UK Treasury last year. c.The top five costliest EU-derived regulations in force in the UK were: d. 1) UK Renewable Energy Strategy cost: 6.6 billion a year; e. 2) Capital Requirement Directive IV on financial institutions: $5.9 billion a year; f. 3) Working Time Directive on labor standards: $5.9 billion a year; g. 4) EU Climate and Energy Package mandates: $4.8 billion a year; and h. 5) Temporary Agency Workers Directive on welfare: $3.0 billion a year -BREXIT Trigging Article 50 by the UK Telegraph a.Triggering Article 50, formally notifying the intension to withdraw, starts a two-year clock running. After that, the Treaties that govern membership no longer apply to Britain. The terms of exit will be negotiated between Britain’s 27 counterparts, and each will have a veto over the conditions. It will also be subject to ratification in national parliaments, meaning, for example, that Belgian MPs could stymie the entire process. b.Two vast negotiating teams will be created, far larger than those seen in the British renegotiation. The EU side is likely to be headed by one of the current Commissioners. c.minimum of two years for the UK to leave the EU. ROMANIA: MINERS RETURN HOME TO HERO'S WELCOME

03:24
Romanian/Nat Romanian miners and their families have given a hero's welcome to their leader who wrested promises of higher wages from the government in return for ending a destructive rampage by his followers. Up to one thousand cheering women and children surrounded Miron Cozma's car on his return to the coal mining city of Petrosani on Saturday. After a short visit to the city hall, Cozma delivered a speech to those who had come to cheer him outside his apartment. Miners cheered and shouted for their leader, Miron Cozma, as they boarded buses to return to the western coal fields after the government reached a wage deal late on Friday. Others expressed disappointment because they were unsure their demands had been met. The miners had just ended a violent five-day march to the capital, Bucharest. Their leader, Miron Cozma, claimed the government had promised to allocate the coal fields a 2-hundred (m)million U-S dollar loan from the European Union. There has been no independent confirmation of this as yet. Families were overjoyed to see their loved ones return home safely after an anxious wait to learn whether they had been injured in the clashes with police. SOUNDBITE: (Romanian) "It's bad for the children, me nephews fought with stick and cardboards and said there were police and miners. SUPER CAPTION: Woman whose husband has not returned yet SOUNDBITE: (Romanian) Q: Are you worried about your husband A: Of course I am" SUPER CAPTION: Woman whose husband has not returned yet In a desperate bid to avoid anarchy, a government team headed by Prime Minister Radu Vasile told Cozma on Friday that miners would get 35 percent wage increases, but only if losses were cut at their mines. The government also agreed not to close two unprofitable mines. Although there was general relief at the peaceful end to a five-day rampage which left nearly 2-hundred people injured - most of them police - some opposition politicians were critical of the violence. Many of the younger generation of miners took time for a quick drink before returning home - on top of the agenda of course their gloomy future in this money losing industry. Deputy Industry Minister Nicolae Staiculescu has said the miners will have to reduce their losses by 20 percent a year and eradicate all losses in the next five years - an ambitious, if not impossible goal. This is the place where it all started five days ago but on Saturday morning the square in front of the National Coal Administration in Petrosani was empty. Cozma, his authority greater than ever, promised to punish miners who did not participate in the strike. He said miners who had joined would get preferential treatment when wage rise came into force. Miners dropped their demands for 10-thousand U-S dollars (120 (m)million lei) in deputy severance pay, for miners who lose their jobs. They already make an average of twice the average national monthly salary of 1.2 (m)million lei (about 100 U-S dollars).
