Hazard: Anything (e.g. condition, situation, practice, behavior) that has the potential to cause harm, including injury, disease, death, environmental, property and equipment damage. A hazard can be a thing or a situation. Hazard Identification: This is the process of examining each work area and work task for the purpose of identifying all the hazards which are “inherent in the job”. Work areas include but are not limited to machine workshops, laboratories, office areas, agricultural and horticultural environments, stores and transport, maintenance and grounds, reprographics, and lecture theatres and teaching spaces. Tasks can include (but may not be limited to) using screen-based equipment, audio and visual equipment, industrial equipment, hazardous substances and/or teaching/dealing with people, driving a vehicle, dealing with emergency situations, construction. This process is about finding what could cause harm in work task or area. Risk: The likelihood, or possibility, that harm (injury, illness, death, damage etc) may occur from exposure to a hazard. Risk Assessment: Is defined as the process of assessing the risks associated with each of the hazards identified so the nature of the risk can be understood. This includes the nature of the harm that may result from the hazard, the severity of that harm and the likelihood of this occurring. Please Be SAFE & ALERT. Trainer's Name - Mohd. Risk Assessment Training - SLAM, JSA/JHA, HIRA, FLRA

05:43
Trainees are introduced to risk assessment methods such as MSHAs SLAM or JSA/JHA by virtual instructor. The trainee is then walked through common tasks performed on the worksite. The lesson provides general training related to what risk assessment is and how to apply it. By repeatedly applying the process, the students will be trained in the specific processes and educated in risk assessment principles. That is, repeated use will help the worker to internalize the process to the point where they can apply it naturally and to a variety of tasks. Helping miners internalize the process is a primary training objective.

Hazard, Risk & Safety - Understanding Risk Assessment, Management and Perception

05:31
(subtitles available in English, French, Dutch, Spanish, Chinese and Russian, German, and a French version is available here: https://youtu.be/wRmfvFYDNr8) Hazard, Risk & Safety Danger, risques et sécurité Gevaar, risico's en veiligheid Peligro, riesgo y seguridad Опасность, риск и безопасность Gefahr, Risiko und Sicherheit We all hear these terms on a daily basis. So and so a chemical, physical or a biological agent poses a risk; This or that product is a hazard or behaving a certain way is unsafe. A lot of the time “hazard” and “risk” are freely used to mean the same thing. However they are not. Hazard is the potential to cause harm. Risk on the other hand is the likelihood of harm in defined circumstances. In a nutshell, hazard and risk are not always aligned as the risk depends on the exposure to the hazard ; similarly, risk, safety and perception of risk are not always aligned; this can make political decisions regarding safety levels difficult to make, in these cases it is especially important to base them on facts rather than on subjective perceptions. http://www.greenfacts.org

Risk Assessment Fundamentals Safety Training Video - Safetycare preview free

02:34
In simple terms a risk assessment requires the identification of workplace hazards and an evaluation of the risks they present. The purpose of an overall workplace risk assessment is to establish whether the level of risk arising from workplace activities is acceptable, or whether additional measures need to be taken to control workplace hazards to further reduce or remove unacceptable risks. The program includes the following Elements of a Risk Assessment: • Identify all the hazards that are present • Decide what are the possible consequences related to these hazards and who may be harmed. • Evaluate the risks and decide whether the existing precautions are adequate or more needs to be done. • Make a record of the findings, and • Review and if necessary revise the assessment from time to time. Regardless of the hazards present, the proper application of the risk assessment process will result in a safer workplace.

JSA Risk Assessment

00:59
When conducting a Job Safety Analysis (JSA), safety professionals use a risk matrix to pinpoint potential hazards in the workplace, based on how probable and how severe that potential hazard may be. The risk matrix calculates the probability and severity levels separately, then multiplies them together to produce the overall risk level. For example, risk levels that are high on the probability scale and moderate on the severity scale are considered serious. On the other hand, risk levels on the lower end of the probability and severity scale are considered low. IndustrySafe’s JSA module can help with these evaluations by assisting in performing risk assessments for possible hazards and using an easily customizable risk matrix to calculate risk levels. To learn more about how IndustrySafe can supplement your JSA assessment needs, visit our website: www.industrysafe.com

Job Hazard Analysis vs Job Safety Analysis

07:44
The following is a post to add to a discussion ongoing in the LinkedIn ASSE Group on the definitions of Job Hazard Analysis and Job Safety Analysis. The late Shannon England, a consulting ergonomist, and I had a discussion on the topic several years ago and devised the chart shown here. James Roughton and I also had discussions on whether we which term to use or come up with a new nomenclature for the JHA and JSA when writing our book. I hope this adds to the overall discussion as there is confusion especially when we interchange the terms during training of supervisors and employees.

Job Hazard Analysis

03:28
Job hazard analysis is a critical tool for identifying hazards and managing risks before the work begins. The task leader is responsible for conducting the JHA, and for ensuring that all aspects of the job have been thoroughly evaluated before the work begins. If he needs help, he can seek the advice of other vessel officers, shore staff or third-party specialists before completing the JHA document. It is his job to ensure that no work begins until all hazards associated with the job have been identified, and safeguards have been applied to all of the associated risks. Those safeguards may range from physical actions like locking out a breaker to procedural measures including the use of appropriate PPE, monitoring the work and ensuring that the work team has been properly trained. Establishing Job Safety Analysis & Job Hazard Analysis

43:16
Job Safety Analysis (JSA) Definition: A Job Safety Analysis (JSA) is a method that can be used to identify, analyze and record 1) the steps involved in performing a specific job, 2) the existing or potential safety and health hazards associated with each step, and 3) the recommended action(s)/procedure(s) that will eliminate or reduce these hazards and the risk of a workplace injury or illness. Hazard Types: The following hazards should be considered when completing a JSA: • Impact with a falling or flying object. • Penetration of sharp objects. • Caught in or between a stationary/moving object. • Falls from an elevated work platform, ladders or stairs. • Excessive lifting, twisting, pushing, pulling, reaching, or bending. • Exposure to vibrating power tools, excessive noise, cold or heat, or harmful levels of gases, vapors, liquids, fumes, or dusts. • Repetitive motion. • Electrical hazards. • Light (optical) radiation (i.e. welding operations, etc.). • Water (potential for drowning or fungal infections caused by wetness). Conducting the analysis: 1. Select jobs with the highest risk for a workplace injury or illness. 2. Select an experienced employee who is willing to be observed. Involve the employee and his/her immediate supervisor in the process. 3. Identify and record each step necessary to accomplish the task. Use an action verb (i.e. pick up, turn on) to describe each step. 4. Identify all actual or potential safety and health hazards associated with each task. 5. Determine and record the recommended action(s) or procedure(s) for performing each step that will eliminate or reduce the hazard (i.e. engineering changes, job rotation, PPE, etc.).
