Finding gold nuggets in South Australia
First ever trip to Australia and the proof that it's who you know, not what you know. Trevor Clark took me to an area where he knew there were nuggets in the ground. On the way to that area I got a really faint target, and once we knew it was a possible nugget, Trevor Ferraresso (there were two Trevor's) started filming me. This was the first of six nuggets found in two days. Not the most to be found, but I'm still happy to find the in SA, one of the 'harder to find gold states'

Advocacy Appeal ~ Bad things coming down in South Australia!
In July of this year, the Tobacco Products Regulation Amendment Bill (2018) was introduced in the South Australian parliament. The bill defines ecigarettes as tobacco products and subject to that states laws regarding tobacco sales. As we speak the bill is being passed. Within six months all online sales of vaping products to or from South Australia will become illegal. What about the people who live regionally and can't get to a vape store? What about the people with disabilities who can't travel to a vape store? What about people with restricted or low incomes who can;t afford to travel to a vape store? It's time we made the government listen to the science and serve their public! ---AUSTRALIAN ADVOCACY--- ►Australian Tobacco Harm Reduction Association (ATHRA) https://athra.org.au/ ►New Nicotine Alliance Australia http://nnalliance.org.au/ ►AVATAR http://avatar.asn.au/

It's time the Simpson Desert was protected.
The Simpson Desert is truly spectacular. It is one of the largest areas of high-quality wilderness left in Australia, of particular importance is the southern Simpson Desert - the Kallakoopah region. Very little of the Simpson is formally protected. In the lead up to the 2010 state election, both the labor and Liberal parties committed to progressing the Simpson Desert for Wilderness Protection. The declaration of a Wilderness Protection Area in the Simpson will deliver on the State's NatureLinks Program and the Trans Australia EcoLink, a collaborative project between the SA and NT governments. We have an opportunity to create one of the largest biodiversity corridors in the world. Mining and petroleum exploration has increased exponentially in recent years. There are currently three mining licences in the Kallakoopha area, the same area which is proposed as a Wilderness Protection Area. Call on the South Australian Government to proclaim a Wilderness Protection Area in the Simpson Desert. http://www.wilderness.org.au Thanks to Film Producer Gemma Salomon for developing this video clip

Global 3000 | How Australia is Benefiting From Its Uranium M
The Middle East is a major exporter of crude oil,Russia is home to the largest gas fields, and the US has the biggest coal deposits. Australia has a lot of these resources as well, but right now it's doing especially well with uranium, which seems to be undergoing something of a renaissance.Widely considered environmentally-friendly,demand for uranium is on the increase, and Australia -- home to over 40 percent of the world's reserves -- is leading the way. Olympic Dam,one of the world's largest uranium deposits,is owned by BHP Billiton. The company is hoping to expand the mine despite the financial crisis. As there is widespread public opposition in Australian to the notion of nuclear power, most of the country's uranium is exported.

37% of Australia Earmarked for Coal or Gas Mining
New mapping reveals that 37.3% of Australia is covered by coal and gas licences and applications. That amounts to 285 million hectares - an area almost 13 times the size of Great Britain! That means your home, your local water source, or even your favourite holiday destination could be at risk! Click here to check it out! At risk are many nationally significant water resources, including: 1. The drinking water catchment for Sydney 2. The recharge waters of the international tourist icon Mataranka Hot Springs (NT) 3. The Yarragadee aquifer of south-west WA, groundwater resource for Perth 4. The magnificent desert rivers of the Lake Eyre Basin in south-west Qld 5. The Mereenie Sandstone aquifer which provides the water supply for Alice Springs 6. The vast water source of the Great Artesian Basin across Qld, NSW and South Australia The mapping was conducted by Energy and Resource Insights, who compiled the relevant coal and petroleum tenement data and release areas from state and territory governments in April 2016. The full research note outlining the methodology from Energy and Resource Insights is available here, and a formatted map for printing is available here. The Standard Gauge Rail Line running alongside the Barrier Highway links Broken Hill with Port Pirie is mainly being used for containerised freight. Meanwhile a huge diversity of the over-size freight is being carried on the Highway. http://www.ask.com/wiki/Road_train?o=2802&qsrc=999&ad=doubleDown&an=apn&ap=ask.com B-Double trucks consist of a truck and trailer combination consisting of a prime mover coupled to two trailers. A proper "Road Train" has two or three normal trailers, connected by converter dollies. That combination is between 36.5 and 50 metres long. With a special permit you can also run whats called an A-B quad. That's two normal full length trailers attached to the rear of a B-double, which brings the full length to 53.5 metres. That's the maximum allowable on normal roads, but there are many private roads and mining roads in Outback Australia where you can find even longer rigs. http://www.outback-australia-travel-secrets.com/australian-road-trains.html The Truck-stop was at Yunta

No mine in Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary
In a move to protect Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary from mining threats, the Wilderness Society took to the steps of parliament urging Premier Rann not to allow further mining damage. Mining company, Marathon Resources, currently holds an exploration lease over the heart of the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary, but the lease is now up for renewal. This provides the perfect opportunity for Premier Rann to protect this beautiful wild place from a mining company that has already been caught out illegally trashing the environment. Marathon Resources was suspended from drilling in February 2008 when they were caught breaching 22 separate exploration licence conditions, including the illegal dumping of approximately 22,800 bags of waste, containing radioactive drill cores, in two pits in the middle of the Sanctuary. The proposed mine site at Mt Gee is a Geological Monument, listed on the Register for the National Estate. It is an Environmental Class A Zone, which means that activity such as mining must be of paramount significance and in the national interest to proceed. It is in the national interest to protect Arkaroola, and now is Premier Rann's chance. Adani Indian Coal Mine in Australia gets opposed by Australian People
Indian Coal Mine in Australia gets opposed by Australian People . Barnaby Joyce's 'duck pond' claim under fire as Adani coal row deepens . Here's what we know about Adani and the Carmichael mine project . Barnaby Joyce has been called "irresponsible" by one of Australia's most senior conservationists after the Deputy Prime Minister dismissed wetlands adjoining Adani's Abbot Point coal port as little more than a "duck-shooting pond". The brawl over Adani's threats to the onshore environment and the Great Barrier Reef escalated as Liberal backbencher Sarah Henderson broke ranks to question a potential $1 billion government loan to develop rail infrastructure for the Indian conglomerate's proposed Carmichael mine in Queensland's Galilee Basin. Australian Conservation Council president Geoff Cousins said Mr Joyce had "failed to check his facts" on the Caley Valley wetlands, a 5000-hectare bird habitat that environmentalists say was damaged by coal dust contamination from the Adani terminal during cyclone Debbie. Mr Joyce this week played down the wetlands' ecological value, describing it as a "swamp" built for duck shooters. With approval granted for a permanent rail line and a temporary construction camp, Adani's much-touted and often doubted Carmichael coal mine has taken a large step closer to becoming a reality. So who and what is Adani? A multinational company based in Ahmedabad, India, Adani Group builds and operates mines, ports and power plants. The company has operations in coal, gas and renewable energy across India, Indonesia and Australia. Adani Mining chief executive Jeyakumar Janakaraj has faced scrutiny for failing to disclose that a company he ran in Africa was guilty of serious environmental breaches, despite being asked to do so in a letter from the Federal Environment Department. But Queensland Mines Minister Anthony Lynham has expressed confidence Adani will operate its Australian mine safely and that the Great Barrier Reef will be protected, with "200 stringent conditions placed on this project". How big is the mine project? Adani's $22 billion Carmichael mine will be built in the Galilee Basin, west of Rockhampton. Once complete, it will be Australia's largest coal mine, with six open-cut pits and up to five underground mines. The Queensland Government estimated the life span of the mine to be between 25 and 60 years. The newly approved 31.5 kilometres of permanent rail line will form part of a 389-kilometre heavy haul line from the mine in the Galilee Basin to the Abbot Point port, south of Townsville. Where will the coal go? The mine will supply Indian power plants with enough coal to generate electricity for up to 100 million people. Coal from the mine will be processed through the Abbot Point Coal Terminal, off the coast of Bowen in north Queensland. How many jobs will it generate? Adani has claimed the mine and related operations will generate 10,000 jobs, however the Land Court of Queensland rejected this. The court instead accepted the evidence of Adani's own expert witness, Dr Jerome Fahrer of ACIL Allen, who said that in net terms the Adani mine would increase average employment by about 1,200 jobs in north Queensland, and create 1,464 jobs Australia-wide. Who has challenged the mine legally and why? Environmental groups have listed multiple concerns about the mine's impact on the Great Barrier Reef and the expansion of Australia's coal sector. Over the past six years, Adani said there had been more than 10 appeals and judicial processes. Here are some of the highest profile Federal Court cases: What's the projected benefit to the economy? Planning Australia's biggest mine Step through the key events in the planning of Australia's biggest mining project, the Carmichael coal mine in remote central Queensland. Adani estimates the project will generate at least $16.5 billion for the Australian economy, but the final figure is dependent on the mine's lifespan. The State Government said it expected to receive many millions of dollars in mining royalties, which would be spent on upgrades for schools, hospitals and roads. "Resources are extremely important for everyone in Queensland," Mines Minister Anthony Lynham said. When will construction start? Earlier this year, the Queensland Government gave the project critical status to fast-track environmental and other approvals. The Government still has to approve a water licence and minor applications for power and road access before construction can start. Adani has said it hopes work on the mine will start in the first half of 2017. Thanks for watching. Subscribe to our channel. Thanks for watching. Eureka Stockade - Excerpt (1984)
Available to purchase at www.umbrellaent.com.au In the wake of the great California gold rush of 1849, miners the world over scrambled to Australia in search of the next big find. Ballarat, Victoria became the focal point for the miners’ efforts, and in an effort to control migration and raise government revenues, Britain established strict guidelines, requiring miners to pay for special licences. Inspired by the general discontent felt by the many miners, Irishman Peter Lalor (AFI Award winner Bryan Brown, Two Hands) and his mining partner, Timothy Hayes (AFI Award winner Bill Hunter, Newsfront) establish a protest group to represent the miners’ grievances and help combat the thugs employed by the Gold Commission under government orders. Supported by a strong team of diggers, including Catholic priest Father Smythe (Tom Burlinson, The Man From Snowy River) and Canadian Charles Ross (Brett Cullen), the miners take a stand against the establishment, united under the flag of the Southern Cross to fight for their rights and liberty. A powerful four-part miniseries event from the producer of Against The Wind and A Town Like Alice, Eureka Stockade also features Amy Madigan, Simon Chilvers, Penelope Stewart, David Bradshaw, Carol Burns, Rod Mullinar and Reg Evans.

Mabuhay! This video is presented by Jose Respall, the principal of Respall Migration Australia which was founded in 1999. If you are a Filipino Mining Engineer working in the Philippines or overseas in a country outside Australia here is a great opportunity for you. A chance to further your career in Australia. It is a land of opportunity with higher wages and a wonderful relaxed way of life. Joseis a registered migration agent who specialises in Australian immigration. The first step involves reading the first 4 chapters of Jose Respall's book Avoiding The Migration Minefield - How To Migrate To Australia From The Philippines. The book captures his 14 years of Australian immigration experience. Respall has made the first 4 chapters available in a downloadable e-book from the website at http://www.respall.com/. He has included real life Australian immigration case studies, hints and tips on how to migrate to Australia, technical information and the all-important code of conduct. The video outlines the process to receiving a visa to live in Australia. The Mining Engineer applicant must attend a review for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) at Respall Migration Australia Manila. This is done to help the applicant to pass it. The engineer is shown the Competency Demonstration Report (CDR) which is a requirement of Engineers Australia to prove the applicant has the experience to work in Australia. Respall Migration Australia documentation specialists assist the Mining Engineer with each document to make sure it is correct - this includes improving their CV to Australian standards. Engineers Australia is the assessing authority for engineers who migrate to Australia from the Philippines. Once the IELTS test has been passed and Engineers Australia has provided a favourable letter the next step is for Respall Migration Australia to prepare an Expression of Interest and lodge it with the Department of Immigration and Boarder Protection (DIPB). The department sends specific instructions regarding the engineer application for Australian immigration and Respall Migration Australia help the Mining Engineer to complete the requests. Once those requirements are met the department issues a visa grant for the engineer and their family members - if they are included in the application for Australian immigration. To start this whole process a Filipino Mining Engineer must email their CV to Respall Migration Australia for assessment. Engineers living in the Philippines can meet Respall Migration Australia in their Makati City office; those further away can Skype. The complete book Avoiding The Migration Minefield - How To Migrate To Australia From The Philippines will officially be launched in May 2014 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Respall Migration Australia. Respall Migration Australian principal Jose Respall says there is a real minefield when it comes to Australian immigration. Engineers being highly skilled professionals sometimes attempt to prepare their own visa applications but they can't be expected to know the Migration Act and keep up with Australian government changes to legislation which occur several times a year. One wrong answer or incorrect document can jeopardise the entire application. The other danger is the many unscrupulous and corrupt individuals who promise to help but really are only interested in taking the applicant's money and disappearing. Some have masqueraded as migration agents. The end result is usually the visa applicant losing a lot of money for no gain. Respall Migration Australia stresses the need for a genuine and valid visa application for Australian immigration. A Filipino Mining Engineer has peace of mind knowing that Jose Respall, who is located in Sydney, Australia, is a registered migration agent as is the manager of his operation based in the Philippines and they must abide by the Code of Conduct as a breach of the code would see their licence being removed. A copy of the code of conduct is provided by Respall Migration Australia to their clients. Use this link Respall http://www.respall.com/ to get your copy of the first 4 chapters of Avoiding The Migration Minefield - How To Migrate To Australia From The Philippines and start your journey to a new and better life! Moonstone mine in Sri Lanka
Mine workers extract minerals and moon stones from underground mines shafts. Moonstone, considered to be the most valuable variety of feldspar, is the opalescent variety of orthoclase (an opaque to transparent potassium feldspar). Its schiller or adularescence is caused by the intergrowth of two different types of feldspar, with different refractive indexes. Like labradorite, it has an opalescent quality, caused by the reflection of light from the internal structure. Moonstone is usually whitish-blue, but can be colorless, yellow, orange, gray, or even reddish. Like many gems found in Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon) and Myanmar (formerly Burma), moonstone most often occurs as pebbles and irregular masses in gem-gravels and clay-deposits. Mining moonstone is nearly always a manual process but there are several different ways in which stones can be collected: In one method, miners dig deep narrow holes in the earth, lowering themselves by rope to the bottom. Filling their wicker baskets with loose dirt and gravel, they hoist the baskets back up to the surface where the gravels can be washed by hand to expose gem quality moonstones that can then be picked out of the gravel. Another method, often referred to as "alluvial," is used in streams and rivers. In this process, natives use loosely-woven pans made from bamboo to 'wash' the river gravels, sands, and soils, allowing them to 'sift' the the water. Mitiyagoda's moonstone Occurring in colors ranging from misty whites to soft grays to pale oranges, Sri Lanka has produced the most desirable and enchanting specimens of moonstone for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. Described as "situated somewhat in the hinterland," Sri Lanka's tiny hamlet of Domanwila, in the village of Mitiyagoda (also known as Meetiyagoda), dominates the world's moonstone market. The village is especially known for its "blue flash" moonstone, translucent white with brilliant flashes of a metallic shimmer-y bright blue. Providing steady employment (a rarity in Sri Lanka), the moonstone industry supports the village. The orthoclase layer under the village is only about 20-30 feet down making manual, low cost access possible. This is particularly beneficial in a culture dependent on the gem trade where men often have to leave home for many months at a time to mine in remote areas of the country, living under the most primitive conditions. However, the advantage also comes at a cost: abandoned mines have turned into stagnant polluted water holes that breed ever more mosquitoes, making malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases a huge problem. Gold Prospecting moonlight
At this location the second largest nugget ever discovered in New Zealand was turfed up in 1917 by prospectors who were re-working old tailings from the 1860's gold-rush to Moonlight Creek. The 87.5 ounce nugget was named the 'Victory'. George Moonlight moved from the Victorian Goldfields (Australia) to New Zealand, then caught a steamer to the west coast of the South Island. George travelled from one gold rush to another, sometimes striking good gold, often not. His remains were found on the 16 September 1884 at Hope Bush (Cow Creek) having gone missing the year before on a lone prospecting trip, and is buried at the Nelson cemetery. Gold was discovered at a site, about 40 kilometres north-east of Greymouth, by prospectors called Cabet (surname) and 'Panama Bill', in 1868. They decided to name the new goldfield after George Moonlight. The creek and neighbouring terraces contained coarse dark nuggetty gold, sometimes impregnated with rose quartz (or rose tinted quartz). Many large nuggets have been found historically at the site. These include W.H. Jones 52 oz, George Fox 78 oz, William Coulter (known as Santa Anna) 47 oz, Mitchell and Russell (surnames) 79 oz, 60 oz, 40 oz, 2 x 33 oz, 22.50 oz and 20 oz, 'Flash' Barry (named after his spending spree in Melbourne from gold finds in the Victorian goldfields) 37 oz, Young and party several from 37 oz to 23 oz, Alfred Bliss 37 oz, Thomas Wood 36 oz, and much more that goes unrecorded. Retired geologist Jock Braithwaite when interviewed in part about Moonlight Creek, gives a fine definition of a nugget: ' A nugget is if you drop it in the dish, and it goes ding'. The site is well known amongst gold fossickers, lured by the romantic name, and the improbable promises of riches, from the many nuggets found here in the past. Gold prospecting requires a permit, but not in the seventeen public fossicking sites on the South Island (always check the Department of Mines website for the most up to date information). Prosecutions for mining without a permit do occur, as a property owner near the entrance of the Moonlight Road found in 2016. Non motorised fossicking is allowed, in designated fossicking sites, including panning dishes, and small scale sluicing. The thought here is families will come, with children given the opportunity to pan for gold in the creek, finding a few specks, then going home happy having spent the day in the beautiful New Zealand outdoors. Not everyone buys into this. Online forums note conflicts with people behaving badly, including a local rock club who arrived, and were threatened by a man clearing trees. Gold does funny things to people, and does not always bring out the best in human nature. Small nuggets have been reportedly found up to recent times. The best time to go is spring and early summer, after the winter floods have potentially washed gold nuggets to the surface. The best time to go to avoid people is mid-winter, when there is knee deep mud, constant drizzling rain, and sub-zero temperatures. The entrance road to Moonlight Creek can be found at a location called Atarau, on the main road on the northern side of the Grey River. Where the road turns sharply is a pull-out area with prominent 'Moonlight' sign, and minor gold mining equipment. The fossicking site is via a narrow gravel road heading north from here into the thickly forested hills for 10 kilometres (sometimes used by logging trucks), to a place now known as Anderson's Flat. The fossicking area covers 59 768 ha, beginning 1.32 kilometres above the bridge crossing. A gold location near Queenstown is also called Moonlight Creek. Prospectors rushed to the site after the 1868 find, many described as 'hatters', a gold mining term for an elderly prospector having gone slightly mad in the head from gold fever. The focus was on a gutter running parallel to the creek, and disappearing into a terrace. Much tunnelling into the terrace failed to locate the gutter extension. There were reefs at Moonlight Creek, but it appears not enough for large company involvement. Several pegged claims, and a couple started work, but amounted to little. The creek was pegged by dredging companies with a similar result. An 1875 report states by this stage many had left, with one store remaining. Coarse gold was also found at Caledonian Creek, 5 miles away: Baxter Creek for fine gold; and Garden Gully, all seeing small numbers of miners around the same time as the Moonlight Creek rush. Long (like all day) difficult (steep, muddy, wet etc) but beautiful walks and mountain bike trails eg. Croesus Track, can be taken through the lush temperate rainforest to the Garden Gully site, containing swing bridges, a 1905 era stamp battery, mining relics, and tin gold miner huts.
