Conference HEC Conseil - NLP, Metaphors and Symbolic Modeling with James Lawley - juin 2015

01:39:43
« Understanding and get inspired by Excellence with NLP, Metaphors and Symbolic Modeling » An interview, démonstration & master class with James Lawley, cofounder of the approach, co-author of the book Metaphors in Mind and neurolinguistic expert « Comprendre et s’inspirer de l’excellence avec les métaphores, la modélisation PNL & Symbolique » Interview, démonstration et master class avec James Lawley en anglais, co-fondateur de l’approche, co-auteur du livre « Des Métaphores dans la tête » et expert en neurolinguistique / CONFERENCE What is the basis of excellent behaviour – not in general, but for the individual exemplar of that excellence? There are thousands of books and articles that tell us how to behave excellently but when studied in detail most of them give little more than a list of abstractions. NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) burst onto the personal development scene in the 1970’s. Its radical premise is that ‘modelling’ can go beyond abstractions to identify how people do what they do so well – including what they do internally that means they get such good results externally – and that this can be encoded in useful process models. But NLP goes further, it maintains the models that emerge from the modelling of excellent individuals can be acquired by others less skilful and significantly improve their performance. And beyond even that, once these models are acquired they can be applied across multiple domains, i.e. to some degree excellence is portable. The objectives of this presentation is for participants to gain: - An understanding of how NLP-style modelling can shine light on the notoriously difficult question: ‘What is excellence and how can people learn from excellent individuals?’ - An appreciation of how Symbolic Modelling has extended the field by incorporating research from Cognitive Linguistics, Embodied & Extended Cognition, Self-organising Systems Theory, and Evolutionary Dynamics. - The observation and debrief of a short demonstration of a Symbolic Modeller getting to that hard-to-get-to tacit knowledge that seems so natural to an expert. OUR GUEST James is a supervising neurolinguistic psychotherapist – registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy since 1993. He co-authored, Metaphors in Mind, the first comprehensive guide to Symbolic Modelling. He has published over 200 articles. James provides coaching and coach supervision to businesses and consultancy to organisations as diverse as GlaxoSmithKline, Yale University Child Study Center, NASA Goddard Space Center, the Dutch Water Authority… In the 1990’s James Lawley (with Penny Tompkins) applied the principles of NLP modelling while studying a radically innovative psychotherapist, David Grove – best known for developing Clean Language. James got more than he bargained for. Not only did he create a learnable model of Grove’s many therapeutic processes, he discovered a new way of modelling. Symbolic Modelling is now being used all over the planet by consultants, educationists, commercial and academic researchers, health professionals, change managers and many types of facilitators. James co-authored the first major peer-reviewed article (in the British Journal of Management) of the contribution Symbolic Modelling and Clean Language can make to qualitative research, and has developed a methodology for assessing the ‘cleanness’ of research interviews. He is currently supporting five PhD students who are applying these methods. REFERENCES - Book : Metaphors in Mind, also available in french « Des métaphores dans la tête » chez Dunod-InterEditions - numerous articles and blogs all freely available on www.cleanlanguage.co.uk - 3 days training in France at Institut Repere once a year ORGANISATION La conférence a eu lieu jeudi 11 juin 2015 à 19h00 à l’Association des diplômés HEC, organisée par les groupements HEC Conseil et Management & Ressources Humaines. Moving beyond token women: The need for radical reform in corporate Australia by Dr Linley Lord

01:23:16
http://odu.curtin.edu.au/clare_burton.cfm Presented by Dr Linley Lord, Graduate School of Business, Curtin University The Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) recently reported that the number of women directors of Australia's top listed companies has now reached 10%. While this statistic indicates an upward trend, does it really mark significant improvement in women's representation in senior decision making roles in Australian organisations? Much of the local focus to date has been on 'fixing' women so that they can fit into existing structures. Will the initiatives addressing the lack of women on company boards recently launched by the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and the Business Council of Australia address some of the systemic problems leading to women's underrepresentation? The 2010 Clare Burton Memorial Lecture tackles these questions by examining overseas experience and the seemingly glacial rate of change in Australia. The lecture will explore ways that Australia could move beyond tokenism and towards achieving the diversity of thinking, experience and expertise needed in Australia's organisations. The Speaker Linley Lord is Director of the Maureen Bickley Centre for Women in Leadership and a senior lecturer in the Graduate School of Business at Curtin University. Linley's research focuses on women on boards, women's experience in and transition into leadership roles, new models of leadership, and women in non-traditional areas of employment. She is currently collaborating with the International Centre for Women Leaders at the UK's Cranfield University and has this year brought to Australia Cranfield's highly successful Women as Leaders Program.

Thorium.

06:27:00
http://ThoriumRemix.com/ Thorium is an abundant material which can be transformed into massive quantities of energy. To do so efficiently requires a very different nuclear reactor than the kind we use today- Not one that uses solid fuel rods, but a reactor in which the fuel is kept in a liquid state. Not one that uses pressurized water as a coolant, but a reactor that uses chemically stable molten salts. Such a reactor is called a "Molten Salt Reactor". Many different configurations are possible. Some of these configurations can harness Thorium very efficiently. This video explores the attributes of Molten Salt Reactors. Why are they compelling? And why do many people (including myself) see them as the only economical way of fully harnessing ALL our nuclear fuels... including Thorium. This video has been under development since 2012. I hope it conveys to you why I personally find Molten Salt Reactors so compelling, as do the many volunteers and supporters who helped create it. Much of the footage was shot by volunteers. Enrico Fermi

49:54
Enrico Fermi (Italian: [enˈri.ko ˈfeɾ.mi]; 29 September 1901 – 28 November 1954) was an Italian physicist, best known for his work on Chicago Pile-1 (the first nuclear reactor), and for his contributions to the development of quantum theory, nuclear and particle physics, and statistical mechanics. He is one of the men referred to as the "father of the atomic bomb". Fermi held several patents related to the use of nuclear power, and was awarded the 1938 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on induced radioactivity by neutron bombardment and the discovery of transuranic elements. He was widely regarded as one of the very few physicists to excel both theoretically and experimentally. Fermi's first major contribution was to statistical mechanics. After Wolfgang Pauli announced his exclusion principle in 1925, Fermi followed with a paper in which he applied the principle to an ideal gas, employing a statistical formulation now known as Fermi–Dirac statistics. Today, particles that obey the exclusion principle are called "fermions". Later Pauli postulated the existence of an uncharged invisible particle emitted along with an electron during beta decay, to satisfy the law of conservation of energy. Fermi took up this idea, developing a model that incorporated the postulated particle, which he named the "neutrino". His theory, later referred to as Fermi's interaction and still later as weak interaction, described one of the four fundamental forces of nature. Through experiments inducing radioactivity with recently discovered neutrons, Fermi discovered that slow neutrons were more easily captured than fast ones, and developed the Fermi age equation to describe this. After bombarding thorium and uranium with slow neutrons, he concluded that he had created new elements; although he was awarded the Nobel Prize for this discovery, the new elements were subsequently revealed to be fission products. Information

18:25
Information (shortened as info or info.) is that which informs, i.e. that from which data can be derived. Information is conveyed either as the content of a message or through direct or indirect observation of some thing. That which is perceived can be construed as a message in its own right, and in that sense, information is always conveyed as the content of a message. Information can be encoded into various forms for transmission and interpretation. For example, information may be encoded into signs, and transmitted via signals. In Thermodynamics, information is any kind of event that affects the state of a dynamic system that can interpret the information. This video is targeted to blind users. Facebook Busted Smearing Google

The Daily Beast reported that Facebook was preparing to launch a smear campaign against Google. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian discuss. The issue came to light after Facebook hired a well-respected public-relations firm, Burson-Marsteller, to suggest some ugly things about Google to reporters. Burson assigned two of its highest-profile employees to the job: former CNBC reporter Jim Goldman and former political reporter John Mercurio. Two of them got to work, alerting reporters to Google's "sweeping violations of user privacy." The culprit? Google Social Circle, which builds a network of Gmail users' friends and contacts -- and their friends and contacts. Google culls public sites like Twitter and, yes, Facebook, for the information. You can read more about it here. Mercurio sent one blogger an e-mail earlier this month offering to ghost-write a column for him about this. "Google is collecting, storing and mining millions of people's personal information from a number of different online services and sharing it without the knowledge, consent or control of the people involved," the e-mail read. The entire e-mail chain is here. Goldman started working on reporters at USA Today. Neither of them would disclose who was funding their work. But it wasn't long before reporters began to find glaring holes in Burson-Marsteller's claims -- and then the firm clammed up. "After Goldman's pitch proved largely untrue, he subsequently declined USA Today's requests for comment," the newspaper wrote. Then The Daily Beast blew this whole thing out of the water by revealing that Facebook had hired Burson-Marsteller. Facebook admitted to the scheme, saying it thinks Google's actions are raising privacy concerns, and that it doesn't like having its own data scraped by Google Social Circle. This kind of smear tactic is fairly common in the industry, but to get busted -- and in such a clunky way -- is an embarrassment for Facebook. "Yet here were two guys from one of the biggest and best-known PR agencies in the world, blustering around Silicon Valley like a pair of Keystone Kops," writes Dan Lyons of The Daily Beast. And others piled on. "Secretly paying a PR firm to pitch bloggers on stories going after Google, even offering to help write those stories and then get them published elsewhere, is not just offensive, dishonest and cowardly," wrote Michael Arrington on TechCrunch. "It's also really, really dumb." One of the bloggers that Mercurio approached is also speaking out. "Now that we know Facebook is behind this, I'm frankly shocked they would try and use me," said privacy advocate Christopher Soghoian. Calling All Cars: The Flaming Tick of Death / The Crimson Riddle / The Cockeyed Killer

01:27:53
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is the police department of the city of Los Angeles, California. The LAPD has been copiously fictionalized in numerous movies, novels and television shows throughout its history. The department has also been associated with a number of controversies, mainly concerned with racial animosity, police brutality and police corruption. The radio show Calling All Cars hired LAPD radio dispacher Jesse Rosenquist to be the voice of the dispatcher. Rosenquist was already famous because home radios could tune into early police radio frequencies. As the first police radio dispatcher presented to the public ear, his was the voice that actors went to when called upon for a radio dispatcher role. The iconic television series Dragnet, with LAPD Detective Joe Friday as the primary character, was the first major media representation of the department. Real LAPD operations inspired Jack Webb to create the series and close cooperation with department officers let him make it as realistic as possible, including authentic police equipment and sound recording on-site at the police station. Due to Dragnet's popularity, LAPD Chief Parker "became, after J. Edgar Hoover, the most well known and respected law enforcement official in the nation". In the 1960s, when the LAPD under Chief Thomas Reddin expanded its community relations division and began efforts to reach out to the African-American community, Dragnet followed suit with more emphasis on internal affairs and community policing than solving crimes, the show's previous mainstay. Several prominent representations of the LAPD and its officers in television and film include Adam-12, Blue Streak, Blue Thunder, Boomtown, The Closer, Colors, Crash, Columbo, Dark Blue, Die Hard, End of Watch, Heat, Hollywood Homicide, Hunter, Internal Affairs, Jackie Brown, L.A. Confidential, Lakeview Terrace, Law & Order: Los Angeles, Life, Numb3rs, The Shield, Southland, Speed, Street Kings, SWAT, Training Day and the Lethal Weapon, Rush Hour and Terminator film series. The LAPD is also featured in the video games Midnight Club II, Midnight Club: Los Angeles, L.A. Noire and Call of Juarez: The Cartel. The LAPD has also been the subject of numerous novels. Elizabeth Linington used the department as her backdrop in three different series written under three different names, perhaps the most popular being those novel featuring Det. Lt. Luis Mendoza, who was introduced in the Edgar-nominated Case Pending. Joseph Wambaugh, the son of a Pittsburgh policeman, spent fourteen years in the department, using his background to write novels with authentic fictional depictions of life in the LAPD. Wambaugh also created the Emmy-winning TV anthology series Police Story. Wambaugh was also a major influence on James Ellroy, who wrote several novels about the Department set during the 1940s and 1950s, the most famous of which are probably The Black Dahlia, fictionalizing the LAPD's most famous "cold case", and L.A. Confidential, which was made into a film of the same name. Both the novel and the film chronicled mass-murder and corruption inside and outside the force during the Parker era. Critic Roger Ebert indicates that the film's characters (from the 1950s) "represent the choices ahead for the LAPD": assisting Hollywood limelight, aggressive policing with relaxed ethics, and a "straight arrow" approach. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LAPD
