Mapping Bug Reports to Relevant Files A Ranking Model, a Fine Grained Benchmark, and Feature Evaluat

14:32
Mapping Bug Reports to Relevant Files: A Ranking Model, a Fine-Grained Benchmark, and Feature Evaluation Email Print Request Permissions When a new bug report is received, developers usually need to reproduce the bug and perform code reviews to find the cause, a process that can be tedious and time consuming. A tool for ranking all the source files with respect to how likely they are to contain the cause of the bug would enable developers to narrow down their search and improve productivity. This paper introduces an adaptive ranking approach that leverages project knowledge through functional decomposition of source code, API descriptions of library components, the bug-fixing history, the code change history, and the file dependency graph. Given a bug report, the ranking score of each source file is computed as a weighted combination of an array of features, where the weights are trained automatically on previously solved bug reports using a learning-to-rank technique. We evaluate the ranking system on six large scale open source Java projects, using the before-fix version of the project for every bug report. The experimental results show that the learning-to-rank approach outperforms three recent state-of-the-art methods. In particular, our method makes correct recommendations within the top 10 ranked source files for over 70 percent of the bug reports in the Eclipse Platform and Tomcat projects. Latanya Sweeney: When anonymized data is anything but anonymous

36:22
Relatively simple data science experiments can yield major insights and have a significant impact. Many experiments in data science are expensive and time consuming to pursue. But Latanya Sweeney, professor of government and technology at Harvard University, has shown that even relatively simple studies conducted by students can have a significant impact on public policy and society. As a student in the 1990s, Sweeney discovered that by applying a couple of filters to a database containing supposedly anonymized health records of Massachusetts state employees, she was able to identify the medical history of Gov. William Weld. That simple experiment led to a broader conclusion: Most people in the United States are the only ones in their ZIP code with a particular date of birth, which means it is relatively easy to discover their identities in much the same way Sweeney found Weld’s history. “That impact -- the ability to have a simple experiment and have dramatic impact – was huge, and something that stayed with me forever. That simple experiment was quoted in the preamble of HIPAA and the rewrite of privacy laws around the world,” Sweeney said during a talk at this year’s Women in Data Science (WiDS) conference at Stanford University. Over the years, Sweeney and her associates have flagged numerous instances of flaws in public databases that have caused significant harm. And they’ve found instances where data sources have been misused or applied in a discriminatory manner. A query by a reporter prompted Sweeney to look for a correlation between names typically given to African-Americans and online ads mentioning arrest records. She found it. Online searches containing a name that sounds like it belongs to a black person were 80 percent more likely to generate an ad mentioning arrest records than searches for stereotypically white names. “Somebody goes online to see what they can find out about you and Googles your name. And if the ads are popping up implying that you have an arrest record, then in fact, you’re at a disadvantage. It’s not about the intent or whether it was intended,” said Sweeney, who was chief technology officer for the Federal Trade Commission from January 2014 until December 2014. A study by Sweeney’s students found that a major SAT tutoring company charged higher prices to Asians. And Airbnb modified its pricing policies after the students found price discrimination against certain groups. Referring to the examples she gave during her talk, Sweeney said: “I like to think I’m really smart, but the truth is these are really simple experiments. But they have profound impact because they empower someone else to be able to do their job better.”

Stanford Seminar: Taking AR to Task - Explaining Where and How in the Real World

01:01:54
CS547: Human-Computer Interaction Seminar Taking AR to Task: Explaining Where and How in the Real World Speaker: Steven Feiner, Columbia University Researchers have been actively exploring Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) for a half century, first in the lab and later in the streets. Over the past year, however, VR head-worn display developer kits have metamorphosed into early consumer products that are far superior to what most VR researchers previously had available. And compelling AR head-worn display developer kits are now being released that promise to beget everyday see-through eyewear. What can the upcoming generation of consumer AR make possible by interactively integrating virtual media with our experience of the physical world? I will try to answer this question in part by presenting some of the research being done by Columbia’s Computer Graphics and User Interfaces Lab to explore how we can support users in performing skilled tasks. Examples I will discuss range from providing standalone assistance, to enabling collaboration between a remote expert and a local user. I will address infrastructure spanning the gamut from lightweight, monoscopic eyewear, to hybrid user interfaces that synergistically combine tracked, stereoscopic, see-through head-worn displays with other displays and interaction devices. About the Speaker: Steve Feiner is a Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University, where he directs the Computer Graphics and User Interfaces Lab, and codirects the Columbia Vision and Graphics Center. His lab has been doing VR, AR and wearable research for over 25 years, designing and evaluating novel 3D interaction and visualization techniques, creating the first outdoor mobile AR system using a see-through head-worn display, and pioneering experimental applications of AR to fields such as tourism, journalism, maintenance, and construction. Steve received an A.B. in Music and a Ph.D. in Computer Science, both from Brown University. He is coauthor of Computer Graphics: Principles and Practice, received the IEEE VGTC Virtual Reality Career Award, and was elected to the CHI Academy. Together with his students, he has won the ACM UIST Lasting Impact Award and best paper awards at ACM UIST, ACM CHI, ACM VRST, IEEE ISMAR, and IEEE 3DUI. Steve is lead advisor to Meta, the AR company. To learn more about the Human-Computer Interaction Seminar. visit http://hci.stanford.edu/courses/cs547/

A Secure Anti-Collusion Data Sharing Scheme for Dynamic Groups in the Cloud

A Secure Anti-Collusion Data Sharing Scheme for Dynamic Groups in the Cloud To get this project in ONLINE or through TRAINING Sessions, Contact:JP INFOTECH, Old No.31, New No.86, 1st Floor, 1st Avenue, Ashok Pillar, Chennai -83. Landmark: Next to Kotak Mahendra Bank. Pondicherry Office: JP INFOTECH, #45, Kamaraj Salai, Thattanchavady, Puducherry -9. Landmark: Next to VVP Nagar Arch. Mobile: (0) 9952649690 , Email: [email protected], web: www.jpinfotech.org Blog: www.jpinfotech.blogspot.com Benefited from cloud computing, users can achieve an effective and economical approach for data sharing among group members in the cloud with the characters of low maintenance and little management cost. Meanwhile, we must provide security guarantees for the sharing data files since they are outsourced. Unfortunately, because of the frequent change of the membership, sharing data while providing privacy-preserving is still a challenging issue, especially for an untrusted cloud due to the collusion attack. Moreover, for existing schemes, the security of key distribution is based on the secure communication channel, however, to have such channel is a strong assumption and is difficult for practice. In this paper, we propose a secure data sharing scheme for dynamic members. Firstly, we propose a secure way for key distribution without any secure communication channels, and the users can securely obtain their private keys from group manager. Secondly, our scheme can achieve fine-grained access control, any user in the group can use the source in the cloud and revoked users cannot access the cloud again after they are revoked. Thirdly, we can protect the scheme from collusion attack, which means that revoked users cannot get the original data file even if they conspire with the untrusted cloud. In our approach, by leveraging polynomial function, we can achieve a secure user revocation scheme. Finally, our scheme can achieve fine efficiency, which means previous users need not to update their private keys for the situation either a new user joins in the group or a user is revoked from the group.

Ethical Issues in Data Science

52:47
McGill University Centre of Genomics & Policy Director Dr. Bartha Maria Knoppers present a webinar titled, "Ethical Issues in Data Science." Abstract Big Data discussions often center on related privacy and security issues, to the neglect of the importance of other ethical issues in data-intensive research. The privacy protections in the European Union’s new General Data Protection Regulation, for example, although essential, must be balanced with the right of everyone to share in scientific advancement and its benefits, which originates in the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights and has become the foundation of the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health's Framework for Responsible Sharing of Genomic and Health-Related Data. In this context, it is worthwhile examining whether the hitherto antinomy between privacy and security concerns and the benefits of data sharing still remains, or are health data governance frameworks, such as the 2017 OECD Recommendation on Health Data Governance, and other policies beginning to address and assuage such concerns? Presenter Bartha Maria Knoppers, PhD (Comparative Medical Law), is full professor, Canada Research Chair in law and medicine and Director of the Centre of Genomics and Policy, Faculty of Medicine, Human Genetics, at McGill University. She is a member of the Scientific Steering Committee of the International Cancer Genome Consortium (2009-present ), and Co-Chair of the Regulatory and Ethics Working Group of the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health. She holds four doctorates Honoris Causa and she is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the Hastings Center (bioethics), the Canadian Academy Health Sciences (CAHS), and of the Royal Society of Canada. She is also an Officer of the Order of Canada and of Quebec. This makes protection against soft errors a requirement for many applications. Communications and signal processing systems are no exceptions to this trend. For some applications, an interesting option is to use algorithmic-based fault tolerance (ABFT) techniques that try to exploit the algorithmic properties to detect and correct errors. Signal processing and communication applications are well suited for ABFT. One example is fast Fourier transforms (FFTs) that are a key building block in many systems. Several protection schemes have been proposed to detect and correct errors in FFTs. Among those, probably the use of the Parseval or sum of squares check is the most widely known.

Accordingly, existing techniques to detect malicious websites are unlikely to work for such webpages. In this paper, we design and implement kAYO, a mechanism that distinguishes between malicious and benign mobile webpages. kAYO makes this determination based on static features of a webpage ranging from the number of iframes to the presence of known fraudulent phone numbers. First, we experimentally demonstrate the need for mobile specific techniques and then identify a range of new static features that highly correlate with mobile malicious webpages. We then apply kAYO to a dataset of over 350,000 known benign and malicious mobile webpages and demonstrate 90% accuracy in classification. Moreover, we discover, characterize and report a number of webpages missed by Google Safe Browsing and VirusTotal, but detected by kAYO. Finally, we build a browser extension using kAYO to protect users from malicious mobile websites in real-time. In doing so, we provide the first static analysis technique to detect malicious mobile webpages.

Mobile: (0) 9952649690, Email: [email protected], web: http://www.jpinfotech.org Social voting is an emerging new feature in online social networks. It poses unique challenges and opportunities for recommendation. In this paper, we develop a set of matrix factorization (MF) and nearest-neighbor (NN)-based recommender systems (RSs) that explore user social network and group affiliation information for social voting recommendation. Through experiments with real social voting traces, we demonstrate that social network and group affiliation information can significantly improve the accuracy of popularity-based voting recommendation, and social network information dominates group affiliation information in NN-based approaches. We also observe that social and group information is much more valuable to cold users than to heavy users. In our experiments, simple metapath based NN models outperform computation-intensive MF models in hot-voting recommendation, while users’ interests for non-hot votings can be better mined by MF models. We further propose a hybrid RS, bagging different single approaches to achieve the best top-k hit rate.

Mobile: (0) 9952649690 , Email: [email protected], web: www.jpinfotech.org Blog: www.jpinfotech.blogspot.com ABSTRACT: With 20 million installs a day, third-party apps are a major reason for the popularity and addictiveness of Facebook. Unfortunately, hackers have realized the potential of using apps for spreading malware and spam. The problem is already significant, as we find that at least 13% of apps in our dataset are malicious. So far, the research community has focused on detecting malicious posts and campaigns. In this paper, we ask the question: Given a Facebook application, can we determine if it is malicious? Our key contribution is in developing FRAppE—Facebook’s Rigorous Application Evaluator—arguably the first tool focused on detecting malicious apps on Facebook. To develop FRAppE, we use information gathered by observing the posting behavior of 111K Facebook apps seen across 2.2 million users on Facebook. First, we identify a set of features that help us distinguish malicious apps from benign ones. For example, we find that malicious apps often share names with other apps, and they typically request fewer permissions than benign apps. Second, leveraging these distinguishing features, we show that FRAppE can detect malicious apps with 99.5% accuracy, with no false positives and a high true positive rate (95.9%). Finally, we explore the ecosystem of malicious Facebook apps and identify mechanisms that these apps use to propagate. Interestingly, we find that many apps collude and support each other; in our dataset, we find 1584 apps enabling the viral propagation of 3723 other apps through their posts. Long term, we see FRAppE as a step toward creating an independent watchdog for app assessment and ranking, so as to warn Facebook users before installing apps.

Three Principles of Data Science: Predictability, Stability, and Computability

51:06
In this talk, I will discuss intertwining importance and connections of three principles of data science. The three principles will be demonstrated in the context of two neuroscience projects and through analytical connections. In particular, the first project adds stability to predictive models used for reconstruction of movies from fMRI brain signals to gain interpretability of the predictive models. The second project employs predictive transfer learning and stable (manifold) deep dream images to characterize the difficult V4 neurons in primate vision cortex. Our results lend support, to a certain extent, to the resemblance to a primate brain of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs).  See more on this video from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/video/three-principles-of-data-science-predictability-stability-and-computability/

Efficient Clue-based Route Search on Road Networks

26:21
Efficient Clue-based Route Search on Road Networks Abstract: With the advances in geo-positioning technologies and location-based services, it is nowadays quite common for road networks to have textual contents on the vertices. Previous work on identifying an optimal route that covers a sequence of query keywords has been studied in recent years. However, in many practical scenarios, an optimal route might not always be desirable. For example, a personalized route query is issued by providing some clues that describe the spatial context between PoIs along the route, where the result can be far from the optimal one. Therefore, in this paper, we investigate the problem of clue-based route search (CRS), which allows a user to provide clues on keywords and spatial relationships. First, we propose a greedy algorithm and a dynamic programming algorithm as baselines. To improve efficiency, we develop a branch-and-bound algorithm that prunes unnecessary vertices in query processing. In order to quickly locate candidate, we propose an AB-tree that stores both the distance and keyword information in tree structure. To further reduce the index size, we construct a PB-tree by utilizing the virtue of 2-hop label index to pinpoint the candidate. Extensive experiments are conducted and verify the superiority of our algorithms and index structures.

Auburn Coach Wife Kristi Malzahn Agrees with Match & eHarmony: Men are Jerks

12:23
My advice is this: Settle! That's right. Don't worry about passion or intense connection. Don't nix a guy based on his annoying habit of yelling "Bravo!" in movie theaters. Overlook his halitosis or abysmal sense of aesthetics. Because if you want to have the infrastructure in place to have a family, settling is the way to go. Based on my observations, in fact, settling will probably make you happier in the long run, since many of those who marry with great expectations become more disillusioned with each passing year. (It's hard to maintain that level of zing when the conversation morphs into discussions about who's changing the diapers or balancing the checkbook.) Obviously, I wasn't always an advocate of settling. In fact, it took not settling to make me realize that settling is the better option, and even though settling is a rampant phenomenon, talking about it in a positive light makes people profoundly uncomfortable. Whenever I make the case for settling, people look at me with creased brows of disapproval or frowns of disappointment, the way a child might look at an older sibling who just informed her that Jerry's Kids aren't going to walk, even if you send them money. It's not only politically incorrect to get behind settling, it's downright un-American. Our culture tells us to keep our eyes on the prize (while our mothers, who know better, tell us not to be so picky), and the theme of holding out for true love (whatever that is—look at the divorce rate) permeates our collective mentality. Even situation comedies, starting in the 1970s with The Mary Tyler Moore Show and going all the way to Friends, feature endearing single women in the dating trenches, and there's supposed to be something romantic and even heroic about their search for true love. Of course, the crucial difference is that, whereas the earlier series begins after Mary has been jilted by her fiancé, the more modern-day Friends opens as Rachel Green leaves her nice-guy orthodontist fiancé at the altar simply because she isn't feeling it. But either way, in episode after episode, as both women continue to be unlucky in love, settling starts to look pretty darn appealing. Mary is supposed to be contentedly independent and fulfilled by her newsroom family, but in fact her life seems lonely. Are we to assume that at the end of the series, Mary, by then in her late 30s, found her soul mate after the lights in the newsroom went out and her work family was disbanded? If her experience was anything like mine or that of my single friends, it's unlikely. And while Rachel and her supposed soul mate, Ross, finally get together (for the umpteenth time) in the finale of Friends, do we feel confident that she'll be happier with Ross than she would have been had she settled down with Barry, the orthodontist, 10 years earlier? She and Ross have passion but have never had long-term stability, and the fireworks she experiences with him but not with Barry might actually turn out to be a liability, given how many times their relationship has already gone up in flames. It's equally questionable whether Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw, who cheated on her kindhearted and generous boyfriend, Aidan, only to end up with the more exciting but self-absorbed Mr. Big, will be better off in the framework of marriage and family. (Some time after the breakup, when Carrie ran into Aidan on the street, he was carrying his infant in a Baby Björn. Can anyone imagine Mr. Big walking around with a Björn?)
