Raise drilling is used to create large drill holes -- up to 7.6 meters in diameter. The holes, or tunnels, are used to connect mine shafts, power plant tunnels or channels for rainwater and surplus water, as well as for ventilation between different levels in a mine. This type of drilling is performed in two stages. First you drill a smaller pilot hole and then you swap the smaller drill bit with a reamer. The reamer is equipped with reels made of hardened metal which have the same diameter as the final hole. The hole is expanded as the reamer crushes the rock using both pressure and rotation. Raise drilling can be used for holes and tunnels of up to 1100 meters in length, which makes this method very practical for many applications. https://engineers-channel.blogspot.com/p/raise-drill.html

3D METHOD STATEMENT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A DEEP AND LARGE DIAMETER BLIND SHAFT FOR THE PASSAGE OF FOUR (3) GAS PIPELINES AND A VENTILATION SHAFT. The video shows the method statement for the construction of large diameter shafts for the passage of gas pipelines, even though blind shafts are usually used in the mining industry. In this particular project pipelines were installed vertically and had a depth of 600 meters and were 2m in diameter. A pendular rig with the usage of reverse circulation drilling and water as the drilling fluid were utilized to accomplish the excavation of the shafts. This is a totally mechanized process which eliminates the need of humans entering the shaft during its construction thus removing any safety hazard associated with this activity. www.brasfond.com For more information please contact [email protected] or +1 (330) 262 0015.

Tilt down Drill T 130 plan B STORYLINE Rescuers in Chile on Tuesday were able to retrieve pieces of the shattered second drill and iron beam from the hole, as operations continued to free 33 miners who have been trapped for weeks underground in a northern Chile mine. That faster second drill was halted for 6 days by the obstruction. Rescuers broke into applause when a specially designed device was able to grab and retrieve the chunk of metal. On Monday only one of three drilling efforts was operational : the so-called Plan A drill, reaching down to 750 feet (230 meters). But it too must stop at 820 feet (250 meters), for maintenance work. Plan B, a higher-velocity drill that will carve out a narrower escape tunnel, has been silenced since last week, when it struck an iron support beam for the mine and its drill bit shattered into small pieces. A third drill, Plan C, is still days away from starting its work. "During the night, we sent a device that was designed especially for the rescue. It can capture the piece and around midnight we were able to completely take out the piece. There fore we can say the Plan B shaft is clear of the pieces of the broken bit that was blocking our advance," said Rene Aguilar, Equipment Manager for Rescue. The setback has caused anxiety among the men trapped by a mine collapse, who had been cheered by the sound of the constant hammering of the second drill as it bored through solid rock. In talks with their families over a fibre optic line rescuers dropped through one of the narrow bore-holes, they demanded explanations from authorities, who have struggled to strike a balance between can-do optimism and the reality that the miners may remain stuck a half-mile below ground for months. With frustration growing, so is pressure for alternative solutions. If the conditions are right, he suggested, dynamite might be used to blast a passage open. A police escort led a procession of honking trucks and vehicles carrying the new drill and equipment. Relatives of the trapped miners, who have been camping at the mine site for weeks, waved Chilean flags and ran to touch the second drill. The new machine was brought in to start drilling into a new path in a renewed effort to reach the miners. Andre Sougarret, the head of the rescue effort, told a news conference at the mine site that a third and more powerful drill is due to join the effort on Sunday as well. He said rescuers were working on a third alternative. "We are making all the necessary arrangements so that by September 18, we should have a third plan at hand. This one would be of a major impact and it would take longer to have it ready." Sougarret said the multi-pronged approach will speed up the process and avoid delays. The arrival of the new machinery brought new hope to relatives camping day and night outside the mine. The aunt of one miner called the newly arrived drill a "blessed, miraculous machine." Various of relatives in their tents STORYLINE The 33 miners trapped deep underground thanked their rescuers on Tuesday and settled in for a long wait until a tunnel wide enough to pull them out can be carved through a half-mile of solid rock. Raising hopes further, a second bore hole punched into the chamber where the miners are entombed, and a third probe was nearing the spot on Tuesday. After parcelling out tiny bits of food and drinking water carved from the mine floor with a backhoe for 18 days, the miners were getting glucose and rehydration tablets to restore their digestive systems. Capsules carrying oxygen also were sent down through a six-inch (15 centimetre) bore hole to help the men survive the hot, stuffy, humid conditions in the lower reaches of the gold and copper mine. The bore holes also will be used to lower communication lines and to provide ventilation, the Chilean Mining Minister said. Meanwhile, the miners were sending up notes to their families in the same supply capsules on Tuesday, providing solace to people who have held vigil in the chilly Atacama desert since the August 5 collapse. Relatives camping near the mine said they would not leave until all the miners were rescued. Their ordeal, however, is far from over. Above ground, doctors and psychological experts are debating how to keep the miners sane during the estimated four months it will take to dig a tunnel large enough to get them out of the safety chamber 2,200 feet (670 metres) underground, where they have been buried since August 5. Rescuers sent down questionnaires on Monday to determine each man's condition, along with medicine and small microphones to enable them to speak with their families during their long wait. A rescue leader said officials are organising the families into small groups to keep their talks as orderly as possible. Meanwhile, an enormous machine with diamond-tipped drills capable of carving a 26-inch (66-centimetre) -wide tunnel through solid rock and boring at about 65 feet (20 metres) a day was on its way from central Chile to the mine, outside Copiapo in north-central Chile. The miners' relatives are suing and claim their loved ones were put at risk working in a mine known for unstable shafts and rock falls. Company executives have denied the accusations and say the lawsuits could force them into bankruptcy. Search for Spanish toddler who fell down borehole hits major setback The search and rescue mission to find a in southern Spain more than a week ago has hit a major setback. As the rescue team was preparing to lower miners into a new vertical shaft that runs parallel to the borehole the toddler fell into, they noticed that the rescue tunnel’s casing cannot be fed more than 131 feet because it is not wide enough. Expert technicians said they are forced to widen the shaft’s diameter. An estimate on when this new task will be completed, reported. "There were technical problems involved in putting tubes in the shaft beyond a depth of 131," said a government spokesman in Malaga, explaining that drilling work was under way to expand the hole. The search-and-rescue team had hoped to start digging a horizontal tunnel at the bottom of the newly created shaft toward the boy’s presumed location. There has been no contact with the boy – Julen Rosello – since he fell down the narrow borehole in the southern town of Totalan near Malaga on January 13 while playing as his parents prepared a picnic. The only sign of the toddler search-and-rescue teams have found so far is hair that matched his DNA inside the hole. In this photo taken on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019, drill and excavating machinery work on top of the mountain next to a deep borehole to reach a 2-year-old boy trapped there for six days near the town of Totalan in Malaga, Spain. Spanish officials say rescuers are making slow progress in exceptionally difficult conditions to reach a 2-year-old boy who fell into a narrow, deep borehole in the countryside eight days ago. Alex Zea/Europa Press via AP The rescue has been fraught with complications. The borehole – or well – is blocked by a layer of earth, sand and stones believed to have been dislodged when the toddler fell. At just 10 inches wide, the borehole is too narrow for adults to enter. An initial plan to reach him with an angled tunnel was abandoned after repeated collapses and landslides. Also, on Monday, digging of the shaft was temporarily halted to perform maintenance on the drill used. The use of explosives was ruled out because they pose a danger to both the miners and the boy. Angel Garcia, the leading engineer coordinating the search-and-rescue, told reporters that they have across “very difficult material” that has made the process more difficult. Once the diameter of the new shaft is widen, a specialized group of miners will be lowered in a specially-made cage to dig the horizontal tunnel. That laborious task is expected to take upwards of 24 hours, officials said. Officials show an excavation map during efforts to find a boy who fell down a well in Totalan in southern Spain on January 17, 2019. - Rescuers racing to save a two-year-old boy who fell down a well in southern Spain have found several strands of his hair, authorities said, raising hopes of finding the toddler whose fate has gripped the nation for days. JORGE GUERRERO/AFP/Getty Images "Those who are here risking their lives have faith that he is alive and that we will pull him out alive," Bernardo Molto, spokesman for the Civil Guard police force in Malaga province, told AFP. "If not, they wouldn't be working in these conditions. "According to reports, the borehole was unmarked at the time of the accident and regional authorities said they necessary permissions had not been sought before it was dug. On Tuesday, Spain’s Civil Guard said it launched an investigation into whether the borehole was drilled illegally. The Civil Guard's press office did not elaborate on the investigation. People across Spain have been gripped by the plight of the boy and his family. The rescue attempt has suffered agonizing delays because of the rocky terrain. The chief characters - Mole, Rat, and Toad - generally lead upbeat and happy lives, but their tales are leavened with moments of terror, homesickness, awe, madcap antics, and derring-do. Although classed as children's literature, The Wind in the Willows holds a gentle fascination for adults too. The vocabulary is decidedly not "Dick and Jane", and a reader with a love of words will find new ones to treasure, even if well-equipped for the journey. Parents will appreciate the themes of loyalty, manners, self-restraint, and comradeship which are evident throughout the book. When the characters err, they are prompt to acknowlege it, and so a reading of this book can model good behavior to children, who will otherwise be enchanted with the many ways in which the lives of these bucolic characters differ from modern life. This book was so successful that it enabled the author to retire from banking and take up a country life somewhat like that of his creations. It has been adapted for screen, stage, and even a ride at the original Disneyland. (Summary by Mark F. I'm throwing a rock down a 450 meter deep hole (1500 ft). Animated description of how and why this hole was made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V69z9VFI4rs This is a video of the drill (sorry for the bad quality): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ec3N0ltc_0Y The hole is in Austria at the bottom of lake Feldsee, and it is a part of a hydroelectric power plant. During the day, when the price of electricity is higher, a lake will be emptied, producing 70 MW of electricity. During the nighttime when the electricity is cheaper, the generator will be used as a pump, refilling the lake. The pump will have a capacity of 11,3 cubic meters per second. The total drop height will be 524 meters, where this hole is 450 meters deep.

Watch more How to Do Fun Tech & Science Projects videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/428093-How-to-Make-a-Water-Wheel Follow these instructions to build a model water wheel project and experiment with hydropower. Step 1: Cut the bottom from the bottle Measure and mark 8 centimeters up from the bottom of the bottle in 3 or 4 places around the bottle. Then draw a line around the bottle, connecting your marks. Using the craft knife, cut along the line to remove the bottom of the bottle. Step 2: Cut the middle of the bottle Use the same method and cut an 8-centimeter-wide section from the middle of the bottle. Measure, mark, and cut four 2-centimeter-wide strips from the center section, and use scissors to cut the strips in half so you have eight strips that measure 4 centimeters-by-2 centimeters. Step 3: Make the wheel Draw 8 evenly spaced lines around the cork and make slits through the lines using the knife. Then slide one of the plastic strips into each slit. Tip Make sure the strips all curve in the same direction. Step 4: Cut the bottom section Measure and mark 2 points on the rim of the bottom section, 12 centimeters apart. Then, measure 3 centimeters up from the bottom of the base section and make a point halfway between the points on the rim. Draw and cut a deep arc from one point on the rim, through the point in the middle, and back up to the second point on the rim. Step 5: Insert the skewer Poke 2 holes on opposite sides of the base, just below the rim. Then cut the skewer in half and thread each half through one of the holes and into the ends of the cork. Make sure that the skewer halves are wedged tightly into the cork and that they have room to spin in the holes in the bottle base. Step 6: Attach the other cork Push the other cork firmly onto the end of one of the skewers and tie one end of a length of thread around the cork. Then tie the loose end of the thread to a fishing sinker. Tip If you don't have a fishing sinker, you can use another weight. Step 7: Run the water Put your water wheel in a sink and turn on the water. Watch the water turn the wheel and see if it produces enough energy to wind the string around the cork and lift the sinker. Once you're able to lift the sinker, increase the weight and see how much you have to then increase the water pressure to lift it. Did You Know? Hydropower was used as long ago as 100 BCE, when the Greeks and Romans placed vertical water wheels in streams or rivers to grind wheat and corn.

From early childhood to adulthood and becoming one of the forerunners of the New Thought Movement Hamblin takes us on his journey of discovery. My earliest recollections carry me back to the time when I was being prompted by Mother as I stumblingly said the child's prayer 'Gentle Jesus, meek and mild, look upon a little child, pity my simplicity, suffer me to come to Thee'. I also remember my father taking me for walks and showing me various wild flowers, and telling me how to recognize the songs of the different birds, for being a countryman he knew them all. He told me stories about Jesus and what He did and said while on earth. He taught me, too, to sing the hymn: 'When mothers of Salem, their children brought to Jesus'. I used to think a lot about Jesus. He was very real to me and I greatly wished that I could see Him, and be like the children of Salem whom He took in His arms and blessed. It would have been lovely, I thought. Henry Thomas Hamblin was an English mystic and New Thought author. The essence of Hamblin's mystical experience and philosophy was of the omnipresence, omnipotence and all-goodness of God ("The Kingdom or realm of God is with us now and always"). He believed that "abounding health, sufficiency of supply, achievement, accomplishment and joy indescribable are the normal state for man.", and that, to achieve this state, man needed to come into "harmony with Cosmic Law". Over time the emphasis of Hamblin's written work changed from showing people how to change their lives through right thought and faith, to teaching them how to find a living consciousness of God for himself alone. Works by Henry Thomas Hamblin include: Within You is the Power (Science of Thought Press, 1998). The Way of the Practical Mystic (Polair Publishing, 2004). The Story of my Life (Science of Thought Press). My Search for Truth (Science of Thought Press). The Message of a Flower (Science of Thought Press). Banquo is a character in William Shakespeare's 1606 play Macbeth. In the play, he is at first an ally to Macbeth (both are generals in the King's army) and they are together when they meet the Three Witches. After prophesying that Macbeth will become king, the witches tell Banquo that he will not be king himself, but that his descendants will be. Later, Macbeth in his lust for power sees Banquo as a threat and has him murdered; Banquo's son, Fleance, escapes. Banquo's ghost returns in a later scene, causing Macbeth to react with alarm during a public feast. Shakespeare borrowed the character of Banquo from Holinshed's Chronicles, a history of Britain published by Raphael Holinshed in 1587. In Chronicles Banquo is an accomplice to Macbeth in the murder of the king, rather than a loyal subject of the king who is seen as an enemy by Macbeth. Shakespeare may have changed this aspect of his character in order to please King James, who was thought at the time to be a descendant of the real Banquo. Critics often interpret Banquo's role in the play as being a foil to Macbeth, resisting evil where Macbeth embraces it. Sometimes, however, his motives are unclear, and some critics question his purity. He does nothing to accuse Macbeth of murdering the king, even though he has reason to believe Macbeth is responsible. Banquo's role, especially in the banquet ghost scene, has been subject to a variety of interpretations and mediums. Shakespeare's text states: "Enter Ghost of Banquo, and sits in Macbeth's place." Several television versions have altered this slightly, having Banquo appear suddenly in the chair, rather than walking onstage and into it. Special effects and camera tricks also allow producers to make the ghost disappear and reappear, highlighting the fact that only Macbeth can see it. Stage directors, unaided by post-production effects and camera tricks, have used other methods to depict the ghost. In the late 19th century, elaborate productions of the play staged by Henry Irving employed a wide variety of approaches for this task. In 1877 a green silhouette was used to create a ghostlike image; ten years later a trick chair was used to allow an actor to appear in the middle of the scene, and then again from the midst of the audience. In 1895 a shaft of blue light served to indicate the presence of Banquo's spirit. In 1933 a Russian director named Theodore Komisarjevsky staged a modern retelling of the play (Banquo and Macbeth were told of their future through palmistry); he used Macbeth's shadow as the ghost. Film adaptations have approached Banquo's character in a variety of ways. In 1936 Orson Welles helped produce an African-American cast of the play, including Canada Lee in the role of Banquo. Akira Kurosawa's 1957 adaptation Throne of Blood makes the character into Capitan Miki (played by Minoru Chiaki), slain by Macbeth's equivalent (Captain Washizu) when his wife explains that she is with child. News of Miki's death does not reach Washizu until after he has seen the ghost in the banquet scene. In Roman Polanski's 1971 adaptation, Banquo is played by acclaimed stage actor Martin Shaw, in a style reminiscent of earlier stage performances. Polanski's version also emphasises Banquo's objection to Macbeth's ascendency by showing him remaining silent as the other thanes around him hail Macbeth as king. in the 1990 telling of Macbeth in a New York Mafia crime family setting, "Men of Respect" the character of Banquo is named "Bankie Como" played by American actor Dennis Farina. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banquo

Ridder Haggard King Solomon’s Mines is the story of the leader Allan Quatermain and his adventurous group of followers on their mission to find the lost brother of an aristocrat, Sir Henry Curtis. Considered similar to Robert Louise Stevenson’s novel Treasure Island, Haggard’s book proved to be another must-read adventure novel in the international literary world. The African desert hides underneath its sands myths and legends that lasted for centuries in the minds of the locals. Quatermain has a mysterious map that could lead to the ancient mines of the wise King Solomon. The road to discovery is not easy, and the group of adventurers must pass through dangerous and life threatening situations. They are taken prisoner by a local tribe ruled by King Twala, a violent and cruel person who wove his path to the throne by killing his brother and abandoning his sister-in-law in the hot sun of the African desert. The novel presents a whole series of furious battles between the Englishmen and the indigenous tribes, in the end the road to King Solomon’s mines being revealed by the maleficent Gagool. The mysteries deepen when Quatermain discovers the body of the adventurer who drew the map to these mines in his own blood. But how will they get to the labyrinth of the mines and find the correct route through? This and many mysteries will keep you riveted as you read this book. King Solomon’s Mines is a great book to explore the ancient world and discover wisdom through Haggard's amazing narration.

A drilling rig is a machine which creates holes in the ground. Drilling rigs can be massive structures housing equipment used to drill water wells, oil wells, or natural gas extraction wells, or they can be small enough to be moved manually by one person and are called augers. sample sub-surface mineral deposits, test rock, soil and groundwater physical properties, and also can be used to install sub-surface fabrications, such as underground utilities, instrumentation, tunnels or wells. Drilling rigs can be mobile equipment mounted on trucks, tracks or trailers, or more permanent land or marine-based structures (such as oil platforms, commonly called 'offshore oil rigs' even if they don't contain a drilling rig). The term "rig" therefore generally refers to the complex of equipment that is used to penetrate the surface of the Earth's crust. This video is targeted to blind users. Theodoric the Great (~454-526) was king of the Ostrogoths during the time of the terminal decline of the Western Roman Empire. After wandering with his people through the Balkans, at times allied with the Eastern Empire, and at others, its enemy, he was invited by the Emperor Zeno to invade and conquer Italy on behalf of the Empire. Briefly appearing in 1915, then banned and taken out of circulation for its adult treatment of sexuality, Lawrence's visionary novel The Rainbow attempts to situate the lives of three generations of the Brangwen family within the continuous social change marking the Victorian transformation of Britain. Farmer Tom and his Polish wife Lydia, whose peaceful rural existence re-enacts the potent myths of Genesis; artisan Will and the matriarch Anna, who go to live among the industrial and mining communities so rapidly sprung up around Nottingham; finally the restless Ursula who, moving to the city, seeks sexual and emotional fulfilment with the Polish-descended Skrebensky - the three couples are not merely illustrative of the changing times, but allow the author to study in depth the conflict between the outer 'social' selves of those individuals and what he curiously calls the 'inhuman' essential being, the 'is-ness' at the core of their psychical life. Lawrence evokes this dark, unconscious 'vital core' through a language of breathtaking poetic beauty; a rhythmic incantatory prose which listeners to this recording will find perfectly rendered by Tony Foster, in all its nuances. Like Paul Morel, the hero of the earlier Sons and Lovers, Ursula survives her losses to face a future of uncertain but radiant hope: "She saw in the rainbow the earth's new architecture, the old, brittle corruption of houses and factories swept away, the world built up in a living fabric of Truth, fitting to the over-arching heaven."
