So guys - what is your favourite local farmhouse brewery? Any of them doing something particularly exciting?

Coming to the TOUR in 2019? If you do, stop at BOON and get a high five from me in person. ;-)

haha, we always hope to!

Look out for Bokkereyder. Top young blender.

Indeed! Trying to get hold of some more!

So, new reply to an older video.... But, I was just drinking a Drop Kick Me Jesus, and as with so many sours, the head is basicly gone insanely fast. I've tried googling it a bit, but it seems to have something to do with the amount of protein in the beer? Or is it something else?
The amount of protein is a deciding factor but lactobacillus likes eating those proteins...so a stable head is harder to achieve!
Tristan Bonin-giust (1 year ago)
how much does the tour cost?
Tristan Bonin-giust (1 year ago)
cool thanks!
Not very. Never more than 15 mins drive between each if you plan the route right!
Tristan Bonin-giust (1 year ago)
oh nice! are they far away from each other?
Tristan Bonin-giust everything is free to go in! Organised tours where they pay on buses aren't much either but we've alwaysbsorted our own transport.

As for my favorite, 3F, hands down. Especially the bottle list the Friday before the event. OGV going back to '03! Just amazing.
DANG didn't know about that Friday!

De Cam was fun, but I was very disappointed with the Nectarine, Wilde Bosbessen, and tros Bosbessen. The Framboise and oude Gueze though, stellar! I can't wait to go back to TdG in 2 years!
The Tros Bosbessen was...well it was awful. Hugely herbal and tannic. Quite liked the nectarine, though nothing on Fou Foune, which is made with a similar fruit.

have you ever tried some beer from Nómada Brewing? one of the best breweries in Spain
manu de hoyos ayerbe (1 year ago)
that's good!! I think you'll like it
No! The name is new to us, we'll look into them.

What??!! This sounds insane! Mmmmm Lambic. Hanssens are super sour, but sooo good! Awesome video as usual! Cheers guys!! (Johnny - from Crafty Beer Reviews)
Hey Johnny, cheers! Yeah Hanssens were my favourite of the weekend, though very excited about 3 Fonteinen and the new site.

do i have to be a chemist or something like that to work for a brewery? what should i do?
manu de hoyos ayerbe (1 year ago)
ok thanks!!
+manu de hoyos ayerbe no but it would help! I think knowledge through practice is what makes a great blender. It's a lot more complex and precise than they make it look.

I really enjoyed de setting at De Cam. The beers were "new". De nectarine was surprisingly biscuity, I brought one home to age. De blackberry one was also very good. I have had great beers in Tilquin also, even the 2 Rullequins. It takes some getting used to, dark lambics... The megablend tasted very nice. I think this year's will be one of the best up to now... but on the other hand I tasted it at 7 p.m. after 8 hours drinking Lambic/Geuze/etc, . Another thing nice about tour the geuze is the good deals. Good prices on the bottles specially in 3F. Brought back home lovely souvenirs!
+The Full Mug haha me too. The Rullequin was great- loved the tart roastiness like lemon on bbq food. Didn't have the blackberry at De cam but the nectarine was excellent. Hanssens was the real surprise for me though Loved it there.

Guys any tips on how to get to breweries out of town but close? Tilquin, 3 Fonteinen ... Not driving :)
Sounds good to us, cheers!
Yonatan Schkolnik (1 year ago)
Cheers mate! next time you're in Bay Area lmk and hopefully you can stay with us. we're quite close to Rare barrel :)
Well, most are pretty hard to get to but Boon and 3 Fonteinen are right by train stations, and Beersel about a 20-25 minute walk from 3 Fonteinen so those three are doable.

I've been at MBCC and it was crazy seing how long the lines were to bokkereyder. I simply refused to wait more than 30min to sample a beer in a 4 hour session. I'm curious though...
haha yeah we heard... it was the same for Monkish at Rate Beer Best - key was to join the queue but keep sending people to get other beers!

Every 2yrs hmmm? Planning a trip to Europe with my wife. Was going to be next year (if money was there), but might just wait till 2019 and put this on my list of things to do!
Delaying by a year is extreme but it's a pretty unforgettable experience!

I had my first Geuze just last month (Lindemans) and man am I hooked. Just hooked on sour beers in general right now to be honest. A local brewery made a dry hopped peachy lactobacillus beer that legitimately tasted like what I thought a grownup soda would taste like. Definitely gonna take every chance I can get to try out new lambics and geuzes now though.
Hoiafar (1 year ago)
Haha, I live within walking distance of Dugges and interned for a short time at a brewery (Rådanäs) that had close working relations with them. I do like Dugges a lot more though. ;P
Dugges make great beer! Loved all the Tropic Thunders so far.
Hoiafar (1 year ago)
The brewery is called Dugges Bryggeri, from Landvetter Sweden, the beer was Tropic Thunder and it was a collaboration with Stillwater Artisanal.
haha, what was the local brewery? The Oude Lindemans beers (so non-sweetened) are stellar. Loads of great lambic over on beermerchants.com.
Thomas Hoogendam (1 year ago)
Great video as usual, and informative as well. However, I have to ask..... Where's Brad???
Sadly the Brad couldn't make this trip, he's working way hard on a day-job project but he'll be back!

Wow a lambic special! I've never heard of this tour... sounds great.
It's amazing. get on the official tour buses if you go!
Joshua Elliff (1 year ago)
Weirdly we get more De Troch here in Vancouver than I've ever seen in the UK.
Wow how weird. Not sure it's officially in the UK at all...
Guillaume Bourcy (1 year ago)
Daaaamn, I should have been there! I spent that weekend in Brussels visiting family, I knew I should have steal my mother's car and have a round around Payotten...
Guillaume Bourcy (1 year ago)
You never go far in Belgium ;)
Haha, but no drink driving right?
Yonatan Schkolnik (1 year ago)
heading to Brussels for the first time this Friday! I barley have two days, what are your favorites places to visit friends? easy access and uniqueness a plus. Thanks a bunch!
Damn BBP is a great shout too.
Guillaume Bourcy (1 year ago)
Le Barboteur (Scharbeek), lambic is less expensive there than in the Moeder. Or the Dynamo as well, they got some Alvinne and De Ranke on tap right now. And if you wanna enjoy some non sour, head for Brussels Beer Project in the center, they got some nice stuffs as well and you can drink you beer next to the brewhouse.
Cantillon for the drink-in specials, Poechenellekelder for amazing beer list sat in the street, Moeder Lambic for the beer and cheese. All amazing places with beers you would die for.
What's your favourite lambic guys? After Toer De Geuze ours might be the Hanssens Framboos! Or that outrageous 3 Fonteinen Robijn...
Steve Claeys (1 month ago)
Boon Kriek, the original one, not the oude or the Mariage Parfait. I like the young fresh taste.
fine fine choices!
Tristan Bonin-giust (1 year ago)
cantillon geuze and kriek mariage parfait
Such a BEAUTIFUL beer. Mountains of sherbert and soft plum. Seen our interview with Pierre Tilquin? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkbL2EGGZ68

Oude Quetsche Tilquin à l'Ancienne really sticks out for me. Only had it once but what a mega beer!
Daan Smekens (1 year ago)
