This was a completely awesome show I really liked watching this thank you!
Joe ENGLAND (6 months ago)
I want to do this lol. Going to all those cool places wow looks delicious. I love the Paulaner stuff, I think it is so cool how old the breweries are.

I live in München and I will give you an advice, if you want visit here and drink beer. DON'T GO TO BIERGARTEN OR ANY FUCKING PLACE SHOWED HERE! Go to drinks Market (called Getränkemarkt in Germany) and you can buy every type of bavarian beer that you want. And for less than 1 Euro per half litter bottle (not 4-5 EUR that you pay in the Biergarten)
The Craft Beer Channel (8 months ago)
Isn't that just bottles?
gary krakow (8 months ago)
Best beer from Augustiner is Edelstoff and do NOT get it in 1l glasses. Go to Augustiner Klosterwirt in Augustiner Strasse 1. Better than this place here
The Craft Beer Channel (8 months ago)
Naaaaaaaaaaaah. Ok, each to their own.

Who has the best beer? Belgium or Munich?
Meta ModernSounds (1 year ago)
The Craft Beer Channel well here in the states lager is of course the style of choice...I feel that beer in Munich would may be just too much like home
Depends if you lager/weissbier or Belgium's endless variations! We change our view daily.

Hey mate, come to my hometown "Bayreuth", it doesnt only has the most brewerys in the nearer regions (over 200), it also has a resturant/pub that was openend up by a family friend and owner of a big brewery in Bayreuth, it has the biggest varierty of beers in any local of the world (over 250 from all over the world). So if you love fancy beer drive up there. They also offer a trip threw the old brewery with intresting stuff. cheers P.s. best one ist the "Bayreuther Hell"

Awesome video! I'm going back to Munich for my second Oktoberfest, and I'm definitely going to go try the Aventinus! Sounds amazing! Also hoping to hit the first place you featured, and the English Garden. Cheers! Great content. Short, fun, informative, and to the pint!

I think drinking overseas is fun.
+Christian Nunez amen to that. Though the us Brits are terrible at it.
Brian O'Grady (1 year ago)
Augustiner Keller is the best place to drink a bier in the world. Their Helles is amazing, IMO!!!!
Not gonna argue with that. Love the place.
richard bevan (1 year ago)
Great vid, but i cant believe you didnt include Hacker Pschorr in your tour.Easily the finest lager to drink in Munich. Nothing compares to a cold, fresh Hacker Pschorr in the Viktualenmarkt on a warm day.
James Miller (1 year ago)
haha we quite agree. In fact, hacker Keller is one of our favourite beers in the world! But we had to choose on both and location for this one!
nicolas mayerhofer (2 years ago)
You should also try the beer by Unertl. They make also really good beer and even if Camba Bavaria are making carft beer (and of of the best in Europe) they make it traitionally and you should make a whole video about them
The Craft Beer Channel (2 years ago)
+nicolas mayerhofer we've enjoyed some CAMBA beers in the past. We'll look up Unertl, thanks!

Do I let it sit or do I drink it fresh
The Craft Beer Channel (2 years ago)
+ImMooful Whoops yeah we weren't clear there. The brewer let's it sit (6-8 weeks) once brewed and the drinker then drinks it as fresh as possible once released!
ImMooful (2 years ago)
no he SAID drink it fresh

one of my favourite beers these days is Schneider Weisse tap 5 "unsere Hopfenweisse", have you tried that one?
Johannes Reppin (2 years ago)
+The Craft Beer Channel I forgot about that :D
The Craft Beer Channel (2 years ago)
indeed we have! A fantastic beer that was first brewed with the one-and-only Garrett Oliver of Brooklyn!
Fritz Anneser (2 years ago)
In munich there are a lot good places to drink and to enjoy beers, especialy lager (Helles) and wheatbeers (Weißbier). So you made a good choice with the brewerys you visited. I can say that, cause i live here in munich. But i have to add one fact, the "Aventinus" is a "Weizenbock". It has a gravity of 18% and only beers with a gravity of 16% and more are allowed to be called "bock" in germany. Besides the beer is fermented by the same wheatbeer yeast like all the other wheatbeers of schneider. So, i have one little fun-fact for you, if you order a beer with "Ein Bier, bitte" you get nearly in whole germany a pilsner beer, but in bavaria you will get a "helles" and only in bavaria you can order a "Weißbier", cause everywhere else they wont understand what you want. Sorry for the long text .. Good video!
The Craft Beer Channel (2 years ago)
thanks man! Good fact. Over here if you order a beer you get a rude "which one?!" Love German drinking culture. Deep down I think I am part German.

Awesome tips for drinking in Munich. My friends and I tried the Schneider Weiss Tap 6 "Unser Aventinus" and "Meine Hoffweisse" and they were the best bear we have ever tasted. Thanks for the help!

Glad you enjoyed it. Tap 6 is one of our fav beers in the world now!

It would be great if you would speak louder and clearer, and not blast horrible music at full volume in between segments. Also, closed captioning would be appreciated, as it is really, really, hard to understand what you are saying.

Kein Hofbrauhaus und Marienplatz? Das ist nicht gut!
Fernando Cunha (2 years ago)
you can go to Hofbraukeller, much less touristy, and with the same quality beer. Also , Hirschgarten is a great biergarten, where you can drink both Augustiner and Tegernsee beer.
General Waste (3 years ago)
+The Craft Beer Channel Tbf it is exactly that, but Marienplatz is essential next time you go! Loved the atmosphere, very friendly and like nothing you get in the UK. Only standard beers on, but it's about the experience.
The Craft Beer Channel (3 years ago)
+General Waste entschuldigung! We didn't do hofbrauhaus as we thought it was a bit too touristy.

Lenier Ashcraft (3 years ago)
Aventinus isn't a lager. It's a weizenbock, which just means a bock strength hefeweizen. Marzen is the old Oktoberfest standard beer, and it's what most people outside of Germany expect with an Oktoberfest. The modern Festbier is a different, golden beer invented by Paulaner in the 70s and made standard at Oktoberfest in the 90s.
The Craft Beer Channel (3 years ago)
+Lenier Ashcraft thanks for the info! We realised our error with the weizenbock when we got home!

Holy crap! Anybody noticed the Vanilla Java Porter on tap at the Tap-House ? Michigan represeeeeeeeeent
SLM3573 (3 years ago)
Augistiner isnt even the best beer in Munich.. should have gone to the Andechs place near MaienPlatz.. also if you want the BEST Helles in Munich then it really has to be Tegernsee you only scratched the surface Johnny
Fernando Cunha (2 years ago)
Augustiner is my favourite in Munchen. I went to the Tegernseer Tal in Munchen and didnt like their draught beer. At Hirschgarten they have Tegernsee and Augustiner......the queues for the Augustiner were much longer than for Tegernsee beer . I still havent gone to Andechs though. But , so far, Augustiner is one of the best draught beers i have tasted. Only second to tankovna Urquell in Prague.
SLM3573 (3 years ago)
+The Craft Beer Channel VIC has some amazing beer going on.. Melbourne is also a bit more European than Sydney but you need to come here as it really is the centre of craft beer, not so much in the brewing but there are amazing pubs, some even more amazing breweries and I get the feeling there is a greater appreciation for craft beer here its a cheap flight and you can get hotels, air bnb at decent prices depending on time of year Let me know if you come down before June.. also if you are coming around that time bring a jacket its f**kng freezing in winter here.. not temp wise but so damp and windy
The Craft Beer Channel (3 years ago)
+SLM3573 we're looking into an Aus trip at this very moment! More like to be Melbourne though but we want to do as much as possible while there. As for Germany, the drinkers are very conservative still you're right. It's funny because being one of the few countries that has always had good beer has held them back on the craft beer revolution. It's starting to take hold though.
SLM3573 (3 years ago)
+The Craft Beer Channel The barrel stuff at Hackerbrucke is pretty good. I have lived and am about to again in Bayern for over 10 years. and I have to say that I moved away from the big 6 some time ago. there is a local place near where I live called Schonram which makes a good Helles and Pils, they have an American head brewer who started making Stouts and Pale Ales but I think your average Bavarian struggles to see past the Helles and Weissbiers that are the norm. Camba seem to have taken on the challenge of making varied styles I hope it takes on. Jonny.. I have been living in Sydney for past 5 years.. you need to come here.(if the budget will stretch). there is an utterly amazing craft beer scene now in Aus. There are too many to mention my favs are Feral brewing in WA, Red Island in VIC and Bridge Road Brewers, 4 Pines here in Manly, but honestly there are so many amazing beers.
The Craft Beer Channel (3 years ago)
+SLM3573 well it's all opinion! We picked the Augustiner place because of the unusual way they serve it, but Andechs and Tegernsee both brew phenomenal beer. We had to draw the line somewhere!
Bonifilio Soto (3 years ago)
Im more of the good old classic beer so Germany is my kind of place
The Craft Beer Channel (3 years ago)
+Bonifilio Soto golden oldies! They still lead the way in all the styles they brew.

The Craft Beer Channel (3 years ago)
+sofakingdrunk66 it's gotta be! The Augustiner garden is heaven.
This looks like a place we need to check out!
Alexander Berger (3 years ago)
Next time you are in Munich you need to try out the Aventinus Eisbock at the Weisses Bräuhaus. To produce this they use the usual Aventinus and than freeze it. The circumstance that the water freezes first allows the brewers to seperate parts of the water from the rest rest of the beer. The result is a very strong beer with a great taste which goes best with sweet desserts. Plus you have to check out the Brauerei am Eiswerk which is an independent microbrewery of Paulaner. They brew a huge variety of very delicious beer and they really know what they are doing. Definetly a place to check out!
The Craft Beer Channel (3 years ago)
+Alexander Berger we'll check them both out! Cheers!
ElectroBlud (3 years ago)
If you ever come to Munich again, make sure you visit the Forschungsbrauerei! It's a very small brewery, but they make (in my humble opinion) the best beer in Munich (and I live right next to it)! Located in Perlach, in the outskirts of Munich.

Peter K (3 years ago)
how can wheat beer be a lager? It's top fermented!
Jfaram064 (3 years ago)
+Peter K lager is a process, using lager yeast at lower temperatures low and slow
Owen Ogletree (3 years ago)
Lagers are fermented at cold temperatures with cold loving yeast strains that produce clean beers with very little ale-like fruity character. Aventinus is not a lager at all, as it is fermented with warm loving ale/wheat yeast that provides a complex, fruity character.
Owen Ogletree (3 years ago)
+The Craft Beer Channel Still a nice video!
The Craft Beer Channel (3 years ago)
Indeed! We were mislead and realised later that the bock name was a misdirection and nothing to do with lager bocks!

Paul August Bieringer (4 years ago)
Aventinus is a delicious brew, but its definitely no Lager. it´s a top fermenting Weizenbock. Two more Spots witk good Lagers are the new Giesinger Bräu and the Forschungsbrauerei (research brewery). The latter is in the suburbs but has a cozy little bar near the famous Viktualienmarkt. It´s called Marktstätte.
You are indeed right! We were getting confused. Very confused. We have learned a lot since this video!
