The Cantillon run | The Craft Beer Channel

Cantillon produce the world's best lambics. Bar none. Sadly they only release 1,500 hectolitres a year – and only 11 make it to the UK, and we have to get it ourselves. So that's what Jonny did – he joined Beermerchants.com on a road trip to Belgium to pick up a crate of sours and meet the man, nay the legend, who made it. This is the Cantillon run.

Hey man, I love Belgium beer so much I moved to Belgium. As a matter of fact a Belgian was telling me about Cantillon a few weeks ago and said I must go on the tour. As for moving here it was not easy to say the least. I bought an apartment in Brussels, had to import my car, register and tag it, get a bank account....NOT EASY!!!

So far yes. I laughed when I saw you step on that Jupiler cup. My wife is a Jup drinker.
haha, worth it though?!

Great video! Which ones did you bring home? Also how did you buy so much? I thought they only allow 3 boxes per person.

+Tom Ed Park #46 haha! We went there with an importer so that pallet of beer was the entire UK supply for several months! Personally I walked away with as much kriek as they would let me buy. Since then I've also bought plenty of Fo Foune, as that's one of my favourite beers ever.

So... did you go back to get the papers or to return the beer? I hope for the papers :-) Loved Brasserie Cantillon when I was there, really an amazing place, and amazing beer.Cheers!

+Cerveza de Garaje we risked it at the border! We had the papers to prove it all if there were any questions later...

I was at Cantillon a few weeks ago. It was an amazing experience! Its for sure a place to go if you love sour beers. I bought every single beer they had available to try and as expected they were all the best sours I've had to date. My only regret is not having bought more!

Dude, did you at least make it to bars such as "moeder lambic" or the infamous "delirium"? We have a bunch of fine beer places and bars to showcase in Belgium. Make sure you try some beers from Brasserie de la Senne. They focus on bitterness and are awesome!
Arno Wijno (3 years ago)
Haha I am talking to an expert all right ;). Nice! It would he awesome if you reviewed one!

We went to both bars (not for the first time!) and know de la Senne well. Beer Merchants import their beer to the UK so I have had lots in the past.
What better than a road trip ? a beer-infused one maybe :)

Especially if you are never the driver!

Damn I love a lambics and krieks! But I live in Australia and its such a rare and expensive beverage over here. You are disappointed that Britain only ever gets that percentage of what's made, but I imagine aus gets barely any at all :( good upload though, keep it up!

Probably not but it ages well so any that does arrive will still be amazing...

My absolute favourite part of my trip to Brussels was getting to see the Cantillon Brewery. I ended up paying extra on my flight so I could pack up and bring beers back with me. My only regret is that I could only bring so much back that way and already told people I'd share.  For anyone thinking about it, it's well worth the trip.

Amen to that. It's an amazing place.

An establishment that you probably know as well is the Geuzerie Tilquin. It doesn't produce per say the beer but assembles them as you've well described. A place to visit and beers to taste of course. Remember, you have belgian fans, we'd (I'd) be delighted to show you around (e.g. ever been to the Delirium Cafe or Moeder Lambic ? Guess so but who knows ...).

+The Craft Beer Channel Cheers mate, can't wait to meet the team !
The Craft Beer Channel (3 years ago)
We drank lots of Tilquin! And went to both the bars. I go to Brussels a lot but next time I will let you know and maybe we can have a beer.
