Jonny and the Brad settle in for a serious sofa session, this time taking four quadruple beers for a ride – including the "world's rarest beer" Westvleteren 12. Which is best? We decide. But don't take our word for it. Agree completely, I've had three of those four beers and the Rochefort is the best of them
MmBuddha (10 months ago)
Rochefort 10 by some margin for me.

I was reminded of this video after having the pleasure of tasting one of my favorite quads again last night, from a Dutch brewer. The Jopen Ongelovige Thomas. It's brewed using American hops (no idea which ones) and the sticky fruit and chocolate flavours of any good quad are highlighted by an amazing grapefruity nose and finish. Highly recommended!!!
Sounds awesome! Love a bit of couch surfing.

If you guys ever come over to the Netherlands, gimme a shout out. You can crash at our place, I'll get a few beers from some Dutch breweries I think are good.
We'll see if we can get some. A little bit of Jopen hits the UK and it sounds very tasty and complex!

Did you ever get around to posting your video about St Bernardus and Westvleteren tasting the same?
Shem Tov Sasson (2 years ago)
Haha, well at least there's a valid excuse. Looking forward!
The Craft Beer Channel (2 years ago)
We filmed it but erm...well...I realised we were a bit too drunk and incoherent to post it. So we're filming it again this Christmas. It's coming!

Have you tried any of the Straffe Hendrik heritage quadrupels? I tried some of the 2013 heritage whist visiting the De Halve Maan brewery and it was quite possibly the best beer I have ever had and a definite step up from the standard quadrupel from them. I am very fortunate to have a couple of bottles of Westvleteren 12 that I'm saving for a special occassion so I'll have to compare the two then.
Noah Broadbent (2 years ago)
I get ya, I'll try and get my hands on a Rochefort 10 to compare especially as you guys seemed to enjoy it so much.
The Craft Beer Channel (2 years ago)
+Noah hey - we have indeed had the heritage! It's a brilliant beer and very adventurous too being made in two spirit barrels then blended! It will be very different to the westy though as the later isn't barrel aged. I'd put the westy against Rochefort 10! We did that for a video and we're surprised by our conclusion.
Rochefort 10 is the winner for me I preferred it to the westy

+Northern Southerner Beer Reviews amen to that.

Monk with a flamethrower... Pure love in that image!

Like your videos, but what's up with the background music on this one? Its almost louder than the talk and totally unnecessary, i only want to hear you talk about the beer :)
The Craft Beer Channel (3 years ago)
Hey - sorry if it was too loud! We'll take it down a notch.
Vikingr Fmly (3 years ago)
Westy 12 probably shows up here(Vancouver, BC, Canada) at least once a year. Rocheforte 10 is my fave quad to be shizzle :P
The Craft Beer Channel (3 years ago)
+Vikingr Fmly does it really?! Amazing! But yeah, Rochefort 10 is def a better beer unless you really dig that coffee and zesty vibe it has.
Daniel Machián (3 years ago)
If you want to try really good beer, than try czech Kocour. It's beer from Varnsdorf and also visiting brewery is awesome! :)
Harry Pike (3 years ago)
Love these sofa session vids guys, informative with a bit of banter to boot. Interesting that Westy didnt come out on top, but perhaps it says something about the super rare, hyped beers; its all in the name. I mean, if you didnt know which was which, would a beer like Pliny stand head and shoulders above another well made, fresh DIPA?
The Craft Beer Channel (3 years ago)
+Harry Pike I think it definitely would have a few years back, but not so much any more. Still, when we tried it we loved it. Glad you like the format! We have to cut a lot of banter out but we keep some gold!
sofakingdrunk66 (3 years ago)
Rochefort 10 wins by a nose against the Westy 12 in my opinion although it is a superb brew.. The Brew Dog i am currently ageing a few of their AB range for a few years.. And i cant believe i didnt try the Straffe Hendrik when i was in Bruges 3 years ago..
The Craft Beer Channel (3 years ago)
+sofakingdrunk66 it's a lovely beer but can't touch the Rochefort. The brandy barrel-aged version is fantastic though.
brittany brinker (3 years ago)
That straffe Hendrick seems to have quite a lot of head retention for a beer at that alcohol level
The Craft Beer Channel (3 years ago)
+brittany brinker had a surprising amount of fizz to it too.

Great video. Do try to get a bottle of struise xxxx quad. The pannepeut ( not pannepot) is also great traditional quad style. The pannepot, not being an abbey beer, is kind of a "stouty" and spiced up version of quad is really mind blowing. Bty, the abt12 from Sint Bernardus has gone oak aged. awesome one also. Cheers!
The Craft Beer Channel (3 years ago)
We've had the bernardus and loved it but not the de struise! We'll track it down. glad you like the vid!
The Master of Hoppets (3 years ago)
Yeah Westy 12 is arguably much more common nowadays, its a "shelf beer" here now. Mostly because it just hangs around, no one buys it because of the price. I think many American barrel aged beers etc. are much "rarer" and sought after than Westy 12 now. But it was the first beer most people tried to hunt down. Of all the beers you sampled I must say I agree with you, my favorite is Rochefort 10. I found out through a blind tasting with my dad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jrUR2WZH2w Cheers guys, cool video!
Tony Howard (3 years ago)
We are off to Belgium back end of November and have the rochefort on my list and I have the St Bernabus down  on the list as well along with 14 other beers..... not sure I will achieve them all in a weekend but at least I will be happy when it all goes a bit wrong...
The Craft Beer Channel (3 years ago)
Well good luck to you! make sure you visit Cantillon and find some de dolle too! and go to Moeder Lambic
David Slone (3 years ago)
You just saved e so much trouble and travel! Thank the Lord that I don't need to shuffle off to some Belgian monastery, because that would be... awesome...
The Craft Beer Channel (3 years ago)
+David Slone haha. We missed a trick there.

The Craft Beer Channel (3 years ago)
+TheGreatUnsigned no a friend picked some up for us. It's not what you know, it's who!
The Craft Beer Channel (3 years ago)
+paul reschke that very comparison is coming up soon! Don't worry!
T T (3 years ago)
Have you tried the six glass by Boulevard Brewing? That beer is great.
THEMOMMOMMY (1 year ago)
The Craft Beer Channel Boulevard Sixth Glass is one of my favorite American brewed Belgian style quads and is very reasonable in price compared to a lot of other craft brews here in US . I recommend it to everyone :)
T T (3 years ago)
My favorite is tank 7. So good.
The Craft Beer Channel (3 years ago)
+ArielHelwany sadly not! We get some Boulevard over here but not Six Glass.
Paul Reschke (3 years ago)
This doesent make sense because the st bernadus is missing and its probably the beer the is closest to westy
LackingCommonSense (3 years ago)
